Best way to play sound when click on a picture?

What is the best way to do this - I have high resolution image of an animal - say a lion - when the reader click on the lion, it plays a sound (says lion roars, or the name of lion)? During the sound playing, the picture should still be there and nothing has changed visually.

I remember someone said did it as a podcast format, can podcast takes in high resolution image? Or is there other better solution?

Thanks!

Seems like a solution, but still can't solve the "play arrow" issue, and it seems like an overkill.

Any good tool to combine a picture and audio so to do what you suggested? I have the pictures and the audio files.

No longer sure what you guys are referring to by "play arrow" or whether you want to combine picture and audio as movie or iBA display. If "play arrow" refers to initial triangle overlay for picture backgrounded in audio player, then don't combine the two. If it refers to the audio control bar, then there is no current way to play the audio without it given the tools currently available in the iBA app. If you are referring to the combining of audio and picture into an single file, then I have already recommended QT 7 Pro since it is available for both PC and Mac platforms and once the raw content is combined in a single file, the file can be converted to an iBA compatible compression format. If referring to the combining of picture and audio in the iBA app and use of current audio controller is satisfactory for your purposes if you can't click on the picture, then why bother to combine them when you could just as easily place the photo to cover as much or as little of the display screen as you desire and then overlay the audio controller separately over the photo as seen here:

Default podcast image is 160x160. However, GarageBand also allows export of M4A podcat file with image dimensions of 300x300. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way of creating a true GarageBand podcast with custom image dimensions at this time. You can add a HiRes image to either a podcast or audio only M4A file—only in the "Full-screen Only" mode—but when the full screen opens an audio only M4A file displays as a "black" screen and a podcast M4A file displays with the "podcast" image (160x160 or 300x300) scaled to fit within the display. As may have been mentioned elsewhere in this forum, you could create an audio track, manually add a HiRes image using the QT Pro "Add to Selection and Scale" Edit option, and export the result as an iPad compatible H.264/AAC M4V file.

The goal is to have a image trigger a sound or movie when tapped.

pretty basic in multimedia.

Understood. However, the change in terminology made it appear to me that you might be looking for something that actually works in the current version of iBA rather than continuing to "preach to the choir" as to how iBA should work. I'm sure most of us here agree with the basic premise that iBA should (or at least it would be nice to) include clickable objects but the fact remains that, in its current form and as you have already said, it does not.

I am refering to the gray triangle that is super imposed over the first frame of a keynote or video set to play in place.

If it could be removed then you could have a kids book where you click on the images to hear the sounds etc.

Unfortunately, such widgets as currently emplemented in iBA require an activation mechanism which appears is the sole function of the "play button image" superimposed on the base widget. I for one could live with this if the HTML Interactive audio dashboard widgets were actually supported properly by iBA. Unfortunately, they only work in single chapter preview tests. As soon as you add them to your main project, the audio ceases to play. Thus, you are left with either using the the built-in controller which does work or going without the audio for your pictures in the current incarnation of the app. As for me, since my grandchildren were able to figure out how to play the audio for the full-page image as depicted above, I am more likely, at least temporarily, to used a less satisfactory work flow over one that does not work at all.

I just downloaded the sample, yes, it is not how it should be done. You should be able to click on the ball and hear "Ball". Every object should be clickable.

The posted image was neither a "sample" file nor intended to be a working version of what you want to be able to do. The following would be something more along those lines:

Lion.zip

This folder contains a local HTML file that displays a clickable image that is Mac/iPad compatible with Safari. Unfortunately, the dashboard widget based on this HTML file is only supported in a single chapter iBA preview test. If you add the same widget to a multiple chapter iBA project, the audio ceases to be supported for some reason as previously discussed as a separte topic in this forum. In addition, even in a working single chapter test projects, the widget must be "activated" to open the full-page, clickable image. In any case, am posting the widget here for others who may want to test it and am keeping a copy on my system in order to test future iBA app updates to see if Apple ever corrects this audio playback problem.

I have been reading through various threads here - and seems like people just said read up on adding audio/video to widget using Help menu or the O Reilly's book. I have done both and still does not know what to do.

Adding the audio file is easy. The question is how to have the picture add as a button. I can't drag picture into the widget. I tried adding the picture as album art in iTunes and export it, and album art disappeared. I do not have GarageBand in my system and does not know any easy way to do podcast (hopefully this is not the only solution)... all is needed is to click on a picture to play a sound!

Any idea is appreciated.

The only way to have a image (button etc) trigger a sound is to have the sound file play at full screen (you get a black screen as the sound plays)

After selecting "full screen"you can drag any image you want (button etc) onto the audo widget.

If you want a image as it plays full screen, make it a keynote or video that plays full screen and add the trigger image.

IBA can not do it.

IBA also can not hyperlink from a image, also pretty basic.

take a look at the sample ABC book "My first ABC" by DK Publishing and you can see how much better it would be if you could click on the images to hear the sounds, which you can't do in the current IBA

Could this workaround be a potential solution??

Here is a video that demonstrates how iAD Producer exports a widget

into iBooks.

I have successfully imported swipeable picture slideshows into iBA using this technique.

Here is a screengrab from iAD Producer which makes me think that a solution is possible.

Unfortunately, I lack the adequate coding skills required to get it 100% operational.

Again, my goal is to implement a simple image/sound gallery that responds to swipe events.

A left/right swipe event should have the ability to activate picture or picture with audio.

A tap should also activate audio.

Any suggestions for would be greatly appreciated.
