I want to burn a 700MB to 800MB .mov or .avi video from my computer to a DVD? I have bought some DVD+R 16X dvds 4.7GB to burn it on but what free software can I download that fits my computer's specifications will do it?

Oh wait a sec, DVD+R? The original superdrive in the iMac G4 does not support DVD+R for burning. You must get DVD-R single layer. Preferably in a jewel box, and preferably by Verbatim, Taiyo or Ritek. http://www.macsales.com/ offers external DVD burners that support DVD+R.
Hello, thanks for your help, I bought the DVDs you recomended (-R), but I can not find anywhere on my computer the option to burn the DVD from Finder, I just do not seem to have that option on my computer. What other softare is there that is compatible and easy to use to burn this video on my computer onto DVD?
Again, where do you intend to playback the video? Also if these are commercial video files we can't help you. But video files you make from home videos, that's another story.

Again we need to know in what format you intend to play this. My TV's DVD player, for example, will play (some) AVI files and I can just burn them onto media and play them straight from that. If you want these as conventional style DVDs then that's another matter. The only free DVD authoring software I know of is Sizzle 0.5 It is not very user friendly, is not being developed any longer, and I couldn't always get the DVDs produced by it to work. Otherwise you're looking at something commercial like iDVD (you will have to find a used copy somewhere) or maybe Toast (I haven't used it but I have read some versions will do basic DVD authoring).
The video file I want to burn I have can be .mov file or .avi, I have both. I am not sure if my television play either, but I just want to burn it in either of thsoe formats that I have and then I can find out. I have IDVD 3, have pasted the file in, but it just will not burn when I click the burn button.
If all you want to do is burn a file to a DVD, all you need is Finder's burn.

It's under Finder's File menu and "Burn disc..."
If this is not working then we will need exact information about error messages you are seeing.
'Burn disc' appears in grey, can not click it.

Yes, when I insert a disk the disk icon comes up but there is no option to burn in Finder.

It sounds like either the PRAM batteripy is near death at over 4 years of age, or the optical drive is damaged and thinks it is a combo drive. If memory serves me correctly there was an iMac G4 Superdrive firmware update. Was that ever applied? If not, make sure the battery is less than 4 years old, and then apply it.
I imported the file into iDVD 3, and it burned for about 7 hours, then I put the DVD into my television when burning was complete and a message came up saying 'Formatting complete,' but then a message came up when I clicked 'play' that said 'no title' so the DVD would not play.
