If I want to transfer an edited photo from my iPhone back to iPhoto on my Mac using iTunes I am not sure what one does.
I think the transferred photo appears below apps on iTunes but I am not sure how you then 'save as' into iPhoto.
Can anyone advise.
Also is there an idiots guide to using iPhoto on an iOS device I.e. one telling how to use all the different tools

If you have exported anyting out to iTunes, then plug in your iPad (or phone or whatever), open iTunes. Click on the device, then click the Apps tap across the top. Scroll down and select iPhoto in the file sharing section, then drag whatever you shared from the section to the right to your desktop. See? Easy! ;-)

Thanks and I followed all of that successfully. BUT, say I don't want to go through the process of navigating that file from my desk top or finder and into iphoto on my mac and instead I want all of that to happen automatically? Is that possible?

Not that I'm aware of, it seems to be the only way to get things out of apps on iOS via iTunes and to your mac.
Well, actually if you exported an editied photo to the Camera Roll, and you have Photostream enabled it will appear in your Photostream album on your Mac (inside iPhoto).
