Q: Unable to log into itunes store (0x80092013) and update problems

I am having problems logging into the itunes store using itunes 10.6.0.40 in Wndows 7 in the uk  which results in the error message shown below:

'We could not complete your itunes store request.  An unknown error occurred (0x80092013).  There was an error in the itunes store please try again later"

However, I am able to browse the itunes store without any problems (this does not require logging in).

In addition selecting the menu item Help > Check for updates in itunes results in the message "The itunes server could not be contacted.  Please check your internet connection or try again later'

I also have two ipods and an ipad and clicking on the <Check For Update> button on each of them within itunes results in the error message "The ipod update server could not be contacted.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connectivity is active or try again later".

In trying to fix the above problems I have tried the following:

Re-installed itunes

Ran ipconfig /flushdns

Changed my dns entries to use dynamic dns entries and also tried googles settings (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

Put entries in the hosts file for gs.apple.com etc

Reset the winsock using the command netsh winsock reset

Turned Norton smart firewall off completely

Ensured interent settings were set to 'Check for server certificate revocation' was unticked and "SSL 3.0" and "TLS 1.0." were both ticked

General internet connectivity is working fine it is just itunes where the problems are.

I can also log onto the itunes store from the ipad itself without a problem.

I also have a Windows Vista laptop which can connect to the itunes store without a problem and can also run the menu item Help > Check for updates and results in a message saying itunes is the latest version.  This also runs Norton Smart Firewall and is having no problems.  So I am assuming from this that my setup is not at fault and it is not an isp issue.

I have also noticed that a number of other people are reporting problems logging into the itunes store and also error 0x80092013.

The results of an itunes diagnostic test (Help > Run Diagnostics) are shown below (this shows that the itunes store can be browsed but attempts at prurchasing etc cannot be completed)

I downloaded 10.6.1 and I was still having a issue buying anything. I would get to the Accept the rights page. Then I would get the -1202. So I have sharing turned on. So on one of the other pc's I tried to download a new song then it came up to that Legal page were you need to select accept. So I was able to do it on the 2nd pc. Then looked on my originial pc and it was downloading the songs. So it is now owrking again.

The update seems to have resolved the 0x80092013 error problem for most people. I guess the lesson learned here is not to download a new version of Itunes immediately!  Next time, I am going to resist the temptation to click on that update button and am going to wait about a month before downloading. This is the second update in succession that has caused issues for me.

Last night, 3/29/12, out of an act of desperation on the to find an itunes 10.53 DL, I came across this website called filehorse. com, which said they had the itunes 10.53 DL. What ensued for the next 20m was one of a PC owners nightmare. Did I pay attension to the Kasperky warning? NO, that's on me. I proceded to DL a progam called the download downloader, that's when the warning went off, so I took  a chance, maybe because i'm a gambler. I turned off Kaspersky and started the DL, that's when things got crazy. It's like, they took over my computer putting an ALot tool bar and fliptoast and a lot of other crap and then I said "I gave what you want SO WHERE THEY **** IS ITUNES 10.53?" THEY NEVER HAD IT! So i left them a nasty message after one of the Uninstalls, and proceded to UI all of their crap. Little did I know that they had "latched" on to a lot of my stuff. So here comes the "fun" part, after UI, I checked my C drive( OS) and I shout from my room "OH S**T! Over 100 GiGA Bytes of memory was GONE! I frantically tried a system restore knowing that was probably not going to work. And it didn't, SO, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM filehorse.com ! I will try to spread the word about those rippoff artists and TAKE ALL STEPS TO RUN THEM OUT OF BUSINESS! I'll try to a respectable place to get a 10.53 DL.

    10.6.1 fixed this for me.

However, whenever I try to subscribe to a podcast I get the message 'we could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-1202).  There was an error in the itunes store.  Please try again later'

This is the same error that mduble received a couple of posts above so I am wondering if the problem is not completely fixed.

Looks like there is still work for Apple to do...

Just tried downloading two podcasts (from the itunes charts). I got the same message when I tried to subscribe directly. However, when I downloaded a podcast episode and then double clicked on that episode in the podcast library, it would then let me subscribe/unsubscribe using the button at the bottom of the screen. Not perfect but a work around that works for me.

Had a quick google and found various links which are not to be trusted. Found a site which looks like it has version 10.5.3 however I have not downloaded/tested etc so tread carefully.

Every itunes from filehippo is 32 bit. I tried it, and it started downloading then I get this message:" this itunes installer is intended for 32 bit versions of windows. Please download and install the 64-bit itunes installer instead."  I give up stillon! The only hope i have is when I talked to the itunes tech, she said that there was a way to DL older versions but you had to make sure you uninstalled all apple products. Thanks for your help stillonXP. Wait, you have windows xp? I have windows 7 . I don't know if that has anything to do with it! 2 choices, either reinstall 10.617 and pay an itunes tech to remoteley fix this, or buy another computer. Whatever it is, it's gonna cost me.

Let me know if it works.

I experimented with something else Stillon. I decided to isolate the problem. I'm a retired electrician so I know about isolating wires and circuitry. I put every extra cd/dvd burning software except WMP in my external harddrive, including  Speedbit. Then unistalled all that stuff in my OS. Then I DL'd 10.617, I still got the cd/dvd software message, when I shouted at the computer, MFers, I took everything off you wanted, I not taking off WMP, that comes with the system. So , after the stupid error message, I tunes popped up, first thing I checked was the diagnostic, all greens. So I started dl'ing my podcasts and while doing it(this is where the isolation technique comes in), one by one, I added all the stuff back form external(G drive) and Realplayer Plus except the Speedbit program ,while monitoring the podcasts dl'ing. Everything was going fine, then I put the Speedbit back in and looked at the podcasts count which was about 1000, all of the sudden the cast countdown started going a lot faster I thought, but it was actually stopping all cast's dl's. So it is true Speedbit WILL NOT work with the new itunes which is funny because if you go to Speedbits website they say they can speed up your itunes downloads. So I guess I might try again, later to get the older app. But right now I'm enjoying itunes again, but not for long! Talk to you later. Thanks StillonXP.

Okay, I just recently updated to 10.6.0.40 and have been unable to sync my photos to my iphone 4s. Yes, this seems unrelated, but just bear with me. Anyway, I decided to completely uninstall iTunes because I thought that maybe something went wrong on my PC during the update due to various symptoms. So, I reinstalled iTunes, everything looked back to normal but when I went to sign in, I got the 0x80092013 error message and was unable to connect to the iTunes store. Great!! If it's not one thing, it's another. So, I searched around and found an old post from 2009 (https://discussions.apple.com/message/9329433#9329433) with a solution for a PC.

    The post states:

    Head to your Start Menu

    • Then click Control Panel located in the right hand menu part.
    • Then look for Network & Internet and click on that.
    • Then you want to click on Internet settings
    • Next, head over to the "Connections" tab
    • From there, click LAN Settings at the bottom.
    • To be sure, try putting a check mark next to the "Automatically detect settings" or remove it if it is checked and hit Apply and then try reconnecting to the store.

I figured, what the heck, I'll give it a try. Don't know exactly why, but this worked for me. Thought I'd share it with y'all

Happy Easter Stillon, well you were right, file hippo did have 10.53 64bit DL.So i uninstalled everything that had to do with apple and dl'ed the 10.53 64 from filehippo. Nothing! It only gave me part of the dl just like oldapps did! The only thing I didn't delete was the library. Maybe that's it, but I'm sick and tired of f****ng with this. Apple doesn't give a **** if they lose business from peons like me. So I guess i will move on to brighter pastures. I put all my podcasts in windows media player and my music.I dl'd Speedbit and bougt there premium packagewhich is sweet, funny though,Speedbit says they can speed up itunes dl's,no such monky.Ihave podcasts in WMP.Apple needs to get thier head out of thier *** and fix this problem!I'm gonna try to get my Quiktime pro 7.7 back. IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON!

I'd fixed the cannot connect to itunes error by downgrading to 10.5.

Then when 10.6.1 came out I waited, but since people reported it working again I tried the upgrade, now the problem is back!  Unbelievable.

    Happy Easter to you also!!

I feel your frustrations.  I suspect it is the itunes library that is the issue here.

If, after a few days, you decide you want to have another ago, have a look at the attached link:

    http://www.imore.com/2011/06/17/daily-tip-downgrade-itunes-105-beta-windows-pc/

Two points to note which I am sure you will spot. This tutorial is to rollback from a beta version but the procedure is the same. The download link takes you straight to Apple and will download the latest version -do not use - you want to use the old version you downloaded.

I have not rolled back itunes myself so I cannot tell you it will work/solve your problem but it might be worth a try.

    Good Luck!!
