Q: Unable to log into itunes store (0x80092013) and update problems

I am having problems logging into the itunes store using itunes 10.6.0.40 in Wndows 7 in the uk  which results in the error message shown below:

'We could not complete your itunes store request.  An unknown error occurred (0x80092013).  There was an error in the itunes store please try again later"

However, I am able to browse the itunes store without any problems (this does not require logging in).

In addition selecting the menu item Help > Check for updates in itunes results in the message "The itunes server could not be contacted.  Please check your internet connection or try again later'

I also have two ipods and an ipad and clicking on the <Check For Update> button on each of them within itunes results in the error message "The ipod update server could not be contacted.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connectivity is active or try again later".

In trying to fix the above problems I have tried the following:

Re-installed itunes

Ran ipconfig /flushdns

Changed my dns entries to use dynamic dns entries and also tried googles settings (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

Put entries in the hosts file for gs.apple.com etc

Reset the winsock using the command netsh winsock reset

Turned Norton smart firewall off completely

Ensured interent settings were set to 'Check for server certificate revocation' was unticked and "SSL 3.0" and "TLS 1.0." were both ticked

General internet connectivity is working fine it is just itunes where the problems are.

I can also log onto the itunes store from the ipad itself without a problem.

I also have a Windows Vista laptop which can connect to the itunes store without a problem and can also run the menu item Help > Check for updates and results in a message saying itunes is the latest version.  This also runs Norton Smart Firewall and is having no problems.  So I am assuming from this that my setup is not at fault and it is not an isp issue.

I have also noticed that a number of other people are reporting problems logging into the itunes store and also error 0x80092013.

The results of an itunes diagnostic test (Help > Run Diagnostics) are shown below (this shows that the itunes store can be browsed but attempts at prurchasing etc cannot be completed)

My old Quicktme 7 pro key no longer works, how do I get QT Pro 7 back? This question was meant for windows users like myself. Please, open the link above to find out my question. StillonXP, you might get a kick out of it. The link above is COMPLETELY SAFE, it's just a question to apple.

Howdy, Stillon, just wanted holler at ya if you have the time. I had a few to many Budweisers yesterday evening and got on the computer to find out why my Quicktime 7 Pro key would not work. If you remember, i had uninstalled everything that had to do with Apple, but i wrote down the key and also used the purchase no.s to try to get my Pro back. Well, I accidentally posted my QTP ? in the Snow Lepard forum, which is some fancy smancy Mac site. I check my Email this a.m. and had some responses. It was like, how dare you even post a loudly and crude ? over here in our Mac World with your silly little windows ?'s and was verbally scolded by some gal from the U.K. You've gotta check out what she and the other guy said with my posts for a good laugh. I've gotta leave this page to get you the link, so hang in there, I'll be back in a minute.

Just thought I would mention that my problems are now completely fixed.

Installing 10.6.1 fixed most problems except being able to subscribe to podcasts.

Re-installing Windows 7 32bit fixed the problem of subscribing to podcasts.

What's up, stillionXP? I've got some good news. You remember when I said that I was moving on to greener pastures without itunes? Well, I lied, I'm back! I decided to try your idea again .The first time I did it, it only got a portion of 10.53 64 based. Last week, I decided to try again, but this time, I DL'd 10.30 or10.31 64bit( can't remember which). This time, after the DL, the error message said that the  itunes lib. itl file was from a newer version and it wouldn't take. So, I put that file in my passport( external HD) and tried again. SUCCESS! I can keep my Speedbit and Itunes 10.31 64bit. So, I just wanted to say thank you Stillon for the knowlege you gave me about these older versions of Itunes and I hope this discussion will help someone else in the world that needs support. Thanks again, and if I can help you out, give me a shout. PEACE!!

I'm sorry if you didn't want me to try to help someone else out who had the kind of problems I did with new Itunes. Why did you stop my edit on the last post? Maybe, I just timed out? Or maybe I wasn't supposed to use italics? But, why would you have the button there, if we weren't supposed to use it? I know I have raised a lot of heck with you guys, but I also know that you have a lot of customers that are not very happy with the changes apple has made. If you don't want to let me try to help someone( like I needed help and the only HELP I got on this issue was from stillonXP, another Windows user) then just say so. But if it's okay, then let me repeat: If you have SpeedBit, Itunes 10.6 or 10.61 will PROBABLY not work together. Itunes 10.31 64bit will work with SpeedBit. Thank You, Apple, for letting us window users have a discussion forum talking about the many good things that come from Apple. My apologies, I timed out during the edit on last post.

Hey, it's me again.I for got to mention that you have to RESIST the temptation to upgrade or "quit" when the apple software update pops up!

Addendum: If you were having the problems I had in the above post, you have to resist the temptation to upgrade

when the apple software upgrade sign pops up. I just "quit"! Until apple upgrades for people who have RealPlayer Plus with SpeedBit, you'll have to use the older Itunes. I used Itunes 10.31 64bit from filehippo.com.

Sorry for not replying sooner Camaro Cowboy.  Thanks for the update.I had a feeling the existing itunes library was the problem. Sometimes you just have to walk away from the problem for a day or so and then come back to it fresh.

We will probably speak again when one of us accidentally clicks the "yes" button when the next major upgrade is released!!

    Peace to you also.

I fixed mine! Turned out to be the web policy on my antivirus software. Even though the Apple site was not specifically included in the list of blocked websites, apparently there was a site the the Apple Store needed in that list because as soon as I removed that it, everything started working.

Hello, Stillon, got another question for you. I don't understand why only some of my podcasts are downloading. It will download most of the podcasts, but then the "barberpole" graph shows up and stops downloading. On the individual podcasts, the ! mark shows up. You click on the ! point and it says "there was a problem downloading May 26th hour 1, the network connection timed out." I checked my diagnostics and they're all green. I kept fiddling with it refreshing, updating podcasts, going to the site and logging on, reporting a concern, where they say if you didn't subscribe at the itunes store, you have to go to each individual site for help. Anyway, besides you Stillon, maybe someone else has a clue what to do?

    trudebiker,

My daughter's computer had a similar problem.  They recommended downloading Autoruns for Windows to see if there are any other programs that conflict with Apple in monitoring Winsock protocol.  Here is the website that they recommended, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123?viewlocale=en_US

It turned out that, after following directions, there were a bunch of McAfee dll files still on my daughter's machine, even though I deleted McAfee and went to Norton many months ago.  I had to delete them from the Autoruns application.  After that, she had access to the iTunes store again.  Hope it helps.

    Lew
