Keyboard short cut for downward arrow

Is there a way of doing a keystroke/keyboard shortcut which automatically and in one go without cutting and pasting enters the following symbol:

2↓

ie a numeral plus a downward arrow next to this. I am trying to indicate a harmonica hole number and downward arrow means breath out.

to put this on every syllable of a song lyric takes ages with the character view or even hex code changing keyboards and entering.

Is there a simple way to create a keyboard short cut for

a number+ downward arrow as above?

thanks

Don't know about generating a keyboard shortcut that complex, but for an easier work-around instead of using Character Viewer or hex code entry -

Highlight the arrow ↓ on a page, such as in your post above.

Then drag that highlighted character out to the desktop. It will be made ito a text clipping, and given the name ↓

Then, when you want to use that character quickly, do one of the following -

• Open the text clipping, press Command-A (Select All) followed by Command-C to copy it to the clipboard, then go to your target document and paste it in.

• Click the text clipping file to select it, press Return. This will highlight the file's name. Press Command-C to copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into your target document.

If you like tidyness, remember than Command-W will close an active text clipping.

→ System pref

NewerOSX

→ keyboard → input sources → + → others → unicode hex

Older OSX

→ international → input menu

→ Activate unicode hex

→ Hold alt + shift 2190 2191 2192 2193 for ←↑→↓ respectively

There are various ways of doing this, depending on what applications you want it active in and your preferences. Here are two:

(1) Symbol substitution: System Preferences > Language & Text > Text > Symbol & Text Substitution.

(2) Spark

or another shortcut/macro manager.

And there are others. Moreover, your word processor or text editor may have its own auto-completion, substitution, or macro facility. Btw, if you're typing in English and using the Unicode Hex Input keylayout, I don't see why you need to switch keylayouts often.
