My automatic time update did not work.

My automatic time update did not work today on my iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. The settings where set to update time automatically and I never had this issue even while traveling. Location services are also on and working. The other strange thing is that I noticed today was that the Time Zone under set automatically was Chicago and not MIami where I am. I don't think this has always been the case since my time has always been correct in the past. It also didn't allow me to switch it to Miami or New York unless I turned off Set Automatically. Stange thing was when I turned it off and set it to New York and then turned it back on it switched back to Chicago.

Anyway, I soft restarte the phone and it seemed to solve the problem.

I have never had this issue with any other iPhone I ever had. in the almost 4 years that I've had iPhones. I need to be able to rely on my phone to have the correct time 100% of the time. I was off today but work every other Sunday and being late is NOT an option. How can I ensure this doesn't happen again?

The automatic time change comes from the carrier/carrier's tower your iPhone is connected to. There could have been a problem with this function at the tower your iPhone was connected to in conjunction with the daylight savings time change.

The Time Zone shown under Set Automatically when Set Automatically is on has no bearing on the date and time being set automatically based on the tower your iPhone is connected with.

When I need to ensure I'm awakened, I have two alarms set. I've been using an iPhone for my wake up alarm beginning with the original iPhone nearly 5 years ago, but I also have my clock radio alarm set on my night stand set as well M-F.

Found some information from folks who had issues with the time change last fall. Here was the advice'

If your iPhone didn’t switch to the proper time for DST, you may have have one of the following issues:

  • Disabled a Time Zone setting
  • AirPlane mode may be enabled

Check to make sure automatic time adjustment is enabled (Settings > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone ON), that Airplane mode is turned off, and then a simple reboot of your device is usually enough to fix the problem.

Thanks a ton for this bit of advise @Dah*veed.

I had a huge challenge while I was travelling! Mis matched times and calender reminders. Then after checking online, I saw a few posts that asked to trade in the 4S for a new one.

So I did.

And to my shock - no luck.

Then came Dah*veed!! 🙂

Thanks for the simple solution.

If the guys at the Apple Support store saw this, they would have saved themselves a trade in.

Peace.
