Q: iOS 5.1 iPad 2 Wifi Issues

Ever since updating to iOS5.1 on my iPad 2 I've been having issues with connecting to my wifi.

I have a Cisco E4200V2 that I bought about 3 weeks ago. On iOS5.0.1 I had no issues at all, but since iOS5.1, my iPad 2 is stuck in a loop trying to connect. And I've tried it a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz on different channels and different security (even with no security) and it's stuck.

I've gone over to a friends house and it connects to his wifi so I'm ruling out a possible software glitch.

So why isn't my iPad2 not working on a cisco router? It was working just fine.

And I have my iPhone 4 which is now running iOS5.1 and it can connect to my wifi.

    Ok. This fixed it.

Do a HARD reset on the Cisco Router and it will work, but do it from the Disc.

For some reason restarting the router from the manufacture from the disc made it work again.

OK guys I have found a way to fix the problem on all IOS devices just go in to the wifi setting and click on the router name you use and turn the proxy to auto and problem fixed. Sam

    rad1,

My problem is that I do not get the list of routers, so I can't change the proxies.

    Foxxel,

I tried hard restarting the cisco router from disk and it didn't work.  In addition, when I had the cisco router powered off, I still couldn't see any of the neighbors' routers.  I doubt they are all using cisco routers.

    Any other suggestions?

go in to the routers setting and turn your security to another type like aes to tkip or try turning off the security on router and see if you can see it might be a problem where you are using a type the ios stuff dont like. Sam

I just upgraded my 4 month old iPad 2 to ios 5.1 and traveling it won't connect to ANY cisco wifi or ones that have a secure login prompt after connect.

It is a BUG with the iOS reported all over. Maybe apple doesn't want to allow Cisco as that is competition.

My iPhone running 5.0.1 is fine.

Does anyone know how to RESTORE 5.0.1 to my iPad? It is not jail broken but I WANT wifi or it is useless.

it sounds like your ipad might have a problem if it can't even scan for networks, you should exchange it for a new one at the apple store.

    this is just silly speculation.

cisco is competition? with what? what mobile devices like the ipad does cisco even make?

if anything apple should be interested in making sure their devices work well with cisco since cisco is popular.

you should bring your ipad into an apple store and have them take a look

Apple makes wireless routers which Cisco is their main competition.

It isn't hardware because multiple people including my work iPads are having the same issue after upgrade. I could do a restore from scratch but I have 20 games with saved levels and I refuse to lose all that data because of an OS bug they should FIX!!!

It finds the SSID and joins but won't trigger the web based login page so you never get a valid ip.

As almost all public and corporate networks use the same web based login it is a big issue.

BTW Flash is popular too and Apple refuses to support it. They don't care what their customers want.

Absolutely.  That's the primary reason no one is buying iPads!

Thanks everyone, but it wasn't the router.  Talked to BestBuy and they had me General -> Restore -> Erase all Data and Settings from the iPad itself, then reload from iTunes backup.  Worked like a charm.  Some file was just corrupted and an iTunes based restore didn't cut it.

Same issue after the upgrade to IOS 5.1, didn't reset the router as all of my other devices had no issues connecting and the problem was just with my Ipad 2. To solve this I just changed my Wifi security key to include at least 14 characters. Before doing this I was able to see my SSID but it just didn't connect even after "forgetting this network" or turning on and off airplane mode.

After changing my key to a 14 character string things have been working good under WPA2.

Now I just have to wait and see to make sure it is a constant fix.

    Time will tell.

Same problem: ipad 2, ios 5.1, no wifi connection since I upgraded. I have two routers - neither will connect.

I have tried every remedy on this page and I still can't connect to wifi.

It is driving me nuts. How do I revert to 5.0.1?
