What are these startup files?

Greetings,

There are two files that run when Windows starts. They are in the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The files are:

Apple Push

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe

QuickTime Task

C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTTask.exe -atboottime

Does anyone know what these files do? Are they safe to delete?

Thanks,

Shane.

QuickTime Task

C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTTask.exe -atboottime

Qttak.exe runs the little quick-launch QuickTime icon thingy down in the system tray. You can shut that off in your QuickTime preferences. In the QuickTime Player go "Edit > preferences > QuickTime preferences". In your advanced tab, uncheck the entry circled in the following screenshot:

User uploaded file

... and click OK.

Apple Push

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe

The Apple Push Service is related to iTunes and the Cloud and device syncing. If you're not doing any of that, it should be fine to disable it in MSCONFIG.
