Q: I do not have Lion installed. Should I update my Time Capsule to 7.6.1?

Apple support page for Time Capsule Firmware 7.6.1 says this update requires Lion OS. I'm running 10.6.8 OS, yet the Airport Utility says "This system should be updated to a newer firmware version." Mixed message...what to do?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

What version of AirPort Utility do you have? If you are running 10.6.8.....AirPort Utility 5.5.3 would be the current and most recent version for Snow Leopard.

The info about 7.6.1 from Apple says:

It is recommended that AirPort Utility 5.5.3 or later be installed before updating to Firmware version 7.6.1. iCloud setup requires AirPort Utility 6.0 and Mac OS X Lion v10.7.2 or later.

AirPort Utility 5.5.3 runs on 10.6.8.

I think you may have confused the info about iCloud requiring Lion.

Thank you. I already had 7.6 installed and it seems to be working out ok, but I wonder if it is not performing as well, and I am just missing it. Is it possible to reinstall 5.5.3?

I do have the iPhone 4S but notice that I still have to sync up through a hard connection to update my podcasts. iCould have confused about iCloud requiring Lion.
