Sort ON MY MAC Folders Alphabetically?

I would like to sort these folders in some kind of alphabetical order. i see that I can order these manually (not convenient) and I am not finding a good option in the View pulldown.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

For an open folder press COMMAND-J, select Name from the Sort by: dropdown menu.

Mail.app should sort them alphabetically. But there've been a thread or two about some glitches with that -- try searching the forum. Btw, a screen shot might possibly help.

Sorry, but, as you know, I can't access Dropbox. (By contrast, I can view pics posted in the usual way.) All I can tell you is that my mailboxes are sorted alphabetically as I expected and I didn't need to make any modifications.

If you have more extensive requirements than Mail.app provides, maybe you should have a look at

hi fane_j.

I am not sure what the problem is with dropbox for you. it should just display like any other image hosting site after clicking the link. is there some firewall protection on your end? also, can you help me with what you mean by posting images in the normal way? i am under the impression that I cannot post directly to the forum is this right?

Also, I am not talking about the mailboxes. Sorry as I may not have been clear about this. I am talking about the /folders/ that I have placed mail into that are under one of my accounts. For instance in my GMail account I have a number of folders that I have created and they are not listed in any understandable way. These are under GMail > Folders > Name of Folder. Apparently I can drag and drop them around but it would be helpful to have them sort in some order...

THANKS

Does the phrase "Golden Shield" have any meaning for you? If not, google it.

Yes, you can. That's what this icon

is for.

From Mail Help > Creating mailboxes:

"You can create mailboxes to organize messages. […] Mailboxes are listed in the Mail sidebar. They look like folders but they store messages instead of files."

I had this same problem. Whenever I added a new Mail Box (folder), it would incert at the bottom of my collum of Mail Boxes. Apple Care told me, the only way to keep all fo my Mail Boxes in alphabetical order was to, each time I created a new one, to drag it from the bottom of the list to its correct position. Bottom Line, drag Mail Boxes into the order you want them.

However, in reading above, there is a way to alphabetize "automatically". Finder > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Gear Icon button > Arrange By > Name. This should do it.

I don't know if this sets up to continue to alphabetize as we create new Mail Boxes, but I think not.

To add to your solution: I followed Hari's steps and, after restarting, didn't see a change. I had to go back into

Finder > Users > MyAccount > Library > Mail > V2 > Mailboxes and delete .mboxCache.plist. This file is hidden by default, so you will need to turn off file hiding. I use Onyx to show hidden Finder files.

Restart Mail. A new .mboxCache.plist file will generate and the sorting will appear. Cheers!

I cannot get beyond > Finder > Applications > Mail. In my Mac V2 follows and then no Gear Icon.

I do not know where Gear Icon is located. Maybe a hidden file but again the Mac OSX does not allow any more for viewing hidden files directly. All this implies extra effort for something that should be straightforward and trivial.

Additionally, should not his be an issue for the Apple mail server, where my mail is mainly located?
