I have configured a set of iPod Touches (and iPads) with Apple Configurator. User can take photos. But when the iPods are attached to a PC or Mac (including the Mac they were configured on), no pictures are visible or downloadable. The photos are visible in the Photos app on the iPod. What's happening?

The iPod is recognized by the Mac that ran Apple Configurator and a PC. On the PC the iPod is recognized by Win7 As a drive but the DCIM folder on the iPod is shown as empty. On OS X Lion Image Capture shows no photos to import.
Camera roll import from supervised devices is not supported at this time.
No photo import for supervised devices is a deal-breaker for me. I hope this gets fixed in the future so I can start using Configurator for our organization.

I agree, it is a super deal breaker. I need the photo import if not i can't get my students to submit their video work. So how can I export their work now?
OK guys! after experimenting, i found another way around this issue.
i use iExplorer to sideload/copy out all the files from ipads regardless whether it is managed with apple configurator or not. its not the most elegant method but it does help alot!

I had this problem too and the solution is Dropbox! In fact, as soon as I opened Dropbox on the iPad that had the videos I needed I clicked NEXT on the Camera Upload screen that pops up and the upload began automatically. Once the videos/pics are in Dropbox they can easily be saved to the desktop or added to iPhoto or iMovie
I tried iExplorer but it doesn't even see the device. I get an error message of "can't start the iphone listener"

I have found a workaround that just worked for me with iPads,
Connect the iPad to the computer that supervises it, take screen shots (home key and off key pressed together) of the photos as they are displayed in Photos on your iPad and then they will be seen when you launch iPhoto on the host computer.
It takes some time, but may be worth it, I just took screen shots of about 70 photos and they are now in iPhoto so I can export them now and use them.
It took me 15 minutes.

I hope what cdespinosa said is correct and you can transfer them but I am not familiar with Mac's.
If not, you may need a third party app such as iPod to Mac Transfer
Using this you can retreive photos, but bare in mind they will only be 640x480 resolution as iTunes "optimises" them to fit on the Touch, still, better than none at all.

Or install GoodReader on your iDevice, open/save the photos/videos in GoodReader, then upload them to a file server (different types available as well as DropBox). We use this method at work. We've set up a webDAV server in the cloud (we've done this with DropBox too) and populated it with as many folders as we have iDevices. Each folder is allocated to a device which in turn is synched to in GoodReader. Every time we copy photos or videos into GoodReader, we simply press the green synch button and the files are uploaded to the server.
