Ipad error 37 and white screen HELP!!

Hi,

I have an Ipad 1 not jailbroken and using itunes on a windows xp machine.

Two days ago I had a notification on my ipad showing an update for the ios was available it started to download wirelessly. When I can back to check the device later it was showing a blank white screen. I have connected to the computer which detects the ipad in recovery mode and attempts to complete a restore. Every time this throws up the error 37.

I have disabled all antivirus software tried the update on three machines and two different wireless providers and still returns the same error. It goes fine up until about 80% and verifying firmware with apple servers then throws the error up.

I have tried everything DFU, restore, ammending windows hosts file and nothing.

The ipad is 2 months outside of it's warranty however it was working perfectly up until apples update

Any help will be appreciated

Exactly the same issue. My Ipad 1 is done now. It was working perfectly. Took to Apple store, said videocard ruined. I sincerely doubt this as it was working perfectly prior to update. Apple will do nothing and I can't figure out how t push an old OS on to it to see if that would work. If yougt a solution, please tell me.

Tom,

Thanks but the code is not accurate. Many other people have this issue too based on my Google search. Even tried to use a test computer with no virus protection to get over the issue. No dice. My guess 5.1 doesn't like Gsm on iPad 1.

Hi,

Well the apple store was less than useless! They said that it was a hardware failure that apparently occurred by coincidence at the same time as the apple update. the level of customer service is appalling.

In the end after wasting my time with the so called genius staff. They told me without paying 158 to repair it there was no way of fixing it.

So i came home downloaded the latest version of redsnow, jailbroke it, you have to have the most recent redsnow which is a tethered((( jailbreak (if its not the most recent redsnow i was getting the firmware 6000 ms error.

Jailbroke pad and works perfect now, still won't restore through itunes but it works and I've now discovered the benefits of jailbreaking the pad anyway.

will never buy an apple product again though customer service is shocking

Thank you for your update. Do you mind explaining how to jailbreak? I downloaded Redsnow 0.9.10b5c and the firmware 5.01. It goes through the motions and then it hangs on the ipad saying awaiting Jailbreak instructions. Is there a way you can explain this to me? I would be very greatful as I spent more than 7 hours trying to get this to work.

It sounds like your having the exact same issue as me, took me a while to figure it out. I am presuming that the error occured when updating to the latest firmware?

The older versions of Redsnow don't update with the new firmware, even if you are selecting it yourself.

What I did was;

download redsn0w 0.9.10b6

run the jailbreak

once this has completed you then need to run the just boot tethered option.

hopefully this will work for you as I had the same issues when using other versions of redsnow and numerous firmwares this one worked for me.

Michael - YOU ARE AMAZING. I thought my wife was going to kill me for ruining our ipad. If you are ever in Dallas - I would definitely buy you lunch or dinner. You have literally saved me. I have been playing with this now for over 10 hours and finally your suggestion fixed it. I am never doing another upgrade.

I agree the only way i'll do an apple update is when redsnow release the jailbreak for it!!!!

If I was you I would take the ipad back the apple genius bar to show them how the ruined videocard looks!
