Q: When I try to sync podcasts to my Nano, iTunes freezes

I recently acquired a new 6th Generation Nano. Whenever I try to sync podcasts to it, iTunes freezes up and has to be forcibly stopped from the Task Manager. This doesn't happen if I try to sync the podcasts to another device (I have an iPad and until recently had an earlier model of Nano and neither have any problems). It's fine if I set it to sync podcasts, but if I actually mark off any podcasts to be transferred and then sync, the Nano sort of freezes in that 'Connected' state we usually get and iTunes freezes up entirely at some point while the 'Starting Sync' message is displayed. I don't have any sort of issues opening up the Podcasts folder or anything like that, it's just when I try to send Podcast files specifically to the Nano that I have a problem.

This didn't work well for me.  I almost lost my purchased music (I use more than one ipod).

Apple just released an update to iTunes (10.6.1) that says it includes a fix for this issue.

This new update DID fix my issue.  iTunes no longer freezes when applying updates from my iMac to my nano.

    So run your software update!

    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view, and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

Yes, installing 10.6.1 (7) fixed the problem for me too.

Oddly, when I installed the update through "Software Update" I ended up with an error message when launching iTunes:

"This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. Please run the English version"

I had to download the iTunes installer from the website: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and reinstall (which I think completely replaces, rather than updates your version of iTunes).

    No problems after that.
