Q: Resetting Apple TV does not work.

Re: HT3180, resetting ATV: I've tried this plus using a mini usb connection to my Mac and iTunes, but all I can get is the Apple logo on the screen and a flashing light on the ATV. This is after trying to update to newest software. Any help would be appreciated.

AppleTV 2, iOS 5.1

Where you able to get the ATV into DFU mode will connected to your Computer. IF you can't I'd take it back to where you purchased it.

DFU MODE: hold down Menu and play buttons for 7sec. The LED should begin to flash rapidly and the ATV will appear in the itune Device list

If I plug the Apple TV into my computer through the USB port, it immediately shows up in the iTunes device list. (The light on the Apple TV is constantly flashing while this is happening.) If I then choose Restore in iTunes, I then get the choice to restore and update. If I choose this, then I get the message that it is trying to contact the Apple TV software update server. This goes on for about five minutes, then I get a message that the Apple TV software update server could not be contacted. My wireless connection is fine and so is my Internet connection. Before the Apple TV died, I was able to twice download the update, but got an error message after it was downloaded saying that an error had occurred and that I should try to download it again.

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Thanks.

Problem solved. Plugged into mini USB port and the ATV showed up as usual in the iTunes device list, but would not connect to the Apple Update server, so as a last resort I restarted my computer, tried again and Voila!

    When in doubt, reboot???
