Safari 5.1.4 broke Gmail AND Google Voice

Try installing the Java for OS X Lion Update 1

Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.

This seems to be some type of rendering issue... You can try and reset Safari to see if it clears some old data, go to Safari> Reset Safari. Once the dialog opens, click "OK" to perform the operation.

I am having the same problem!!!! I need a fix!! How do I downgrade my Safari?

I too am having trouble as it won't run a script on my onw website, that has worked previously and still works fine in Chrome and Firefox. I'm usin 10.6.8 Snow Leapord, and the resetting of Safari was of no help.

I'm expecting another update in a day or so to sort out the new bugs.

And I am having the same problem. Does not work Gmail, buttons on YouTube, I can't login on macrumors.com, etc.

I decided the problem. Once I opened Safari on a 64-bit mode, all the problems disappeared.

Ok this problem seems to be a little more common than I thought. I think I will hold updating to Safari 5.1.4 as I use Gmail. Don't know but it seems that the ones Apple is hiring for quality control are just not to standards, I can't explain why recent Apple updates are giving so much issues.

64bit worked for me too, but it doesn't solve the issue it just bypasses it. 32bit mode is still a necessity for some sites and some functions. While this is a good workaround, it's not a true solution. Hopefully Apple will post a patch at some point.

I am a little confused by the issue, everyone here is stating that if Safari is running in 32-bit mode it does show the rendering problems in Gmail. However, when I check information about Safari in the application folder and can see that I have the option to operate Safari in 32-bit mode rather than 64-bit mode. I know for fact that in SL Safari runs in 64-bit mode by default if your system supports it. This makes me wonder if the people in this forum are having problems with Safari 5.1.4 in their Core Duo or 32-bit EFI only Macs which will not use a 64-bit version of Safari. Can anyone explain further? I am really trying to decide whether I will pull the trigger and update.

So how do I set it to 64bit?

Go to your applications folder, right click on safari, "get info" and uncheck the "32bits" option. Works for me as well. Actually I didn't know my Safari was working in 32 bits mode. 😕
