Wow. Really? I always worked fine for me - for years and years all my art mathced my tunes... then about 6 or 8 months I chose the "covert to 128k" option... from then on I've had the problem. Hmm. Perhaps there was an iTunes or iOS update that happened at or near the same time I chose the convert option and I wrongly assumed it was the conversion when in reality it was the update? I have no idea. I only know it worked fine for a very long time, and for the past 6 or 8 months - around the time I started using the convert to 128k option - it has not worked (for me). I do apply all updates the day they are realsed too, so that may be a factor as well.
Side note: Does it bother anyone else that we have to keep signing in to this forum, and after sign in we must go to our history to come back to the page we were on??!! There must be a more elegant way. Come on Apple, your better than this.
It's still hit or miss for me. I'd say about 80% of the art from tracks where I downcoverted to 128 kps show up on the iPhone. 100% of the artwork shows up if the tracks are already at 128 kps in my iTunes.
The kicker is, when looking at your music on the iPhone, and you turn it sideways so you can swipe left and right, for me, pretty much 100% of the artwork shows up in that view mode. So the files are SOMEWHERE on your iPhone. That's why I feel it's something in iOS 5 and 6. But that just my gut feeling. I know zilch about computers.
I have had the same problem. I am down converting music to 128 kbs (need the room).
This is a pain to do and does take time but I want the art, particular the older albums.
-- Right click and copy the art from the album on the computer
In this order
-- Go to the song on your phone (on the computer) select get info and select artwork tab and paste
-- Then paste the artwork in the "artwork video viewer" (small window bottom left)
The artwork sometimes will not show in the viewer but it should be on the phone.
I think I'm going to have to just post in here every day that:
1) The problem occurs regardless of downsampling usage
2) It's not just an annoyance
3) Fixes which advocate cutting and pasting artwork are not feasible for thousands of songs
That Samsung commerical with the line of Apple bots waiting for the next iPhone is sure funny. Because it's true.
With iOS6, I too stared noticing missing album artwork in cover flow mode on my iPhone 4S. Pretty annoying considering I keep my entire iTunes library and synced playlists' meticulous. In my case, about 10% of my synced songs stopped showing artwork after my iOS6 upgrade. (And this included some albums downloaded directly from iTunes, go figure). I'm on a Mac running 10.7 but would imagine that this workaround method should work on a PC as well.
• First, I located each offending song/album on my iPhone 4S that was missing album art from showing in coverflow mode
• In iTunes now, I located those particular songs/albums and dragged its album art (copied it) to my desktop. (More offen than not, the album art file will be in .jpg format)
• Back in iTunes, I deleted the album art from those offending songs/albums
• For this next step I used Photoshop CS5 (but any CS version should work): In Photoshop, I opened the album art that was saved to my desktop and simply re-saved the art file back over itself (as RGB, 72dpi, baseline standard option from the jpg "save as" dialogue box (performing a very basic "save as")
• Back in iTunes on my computer, I then highlighted the offending tracks and dragged/applied this newly re-saved song/album art back onto the offending album song files.
• After re-syncing my iPhone to iTunes, all offending song/album art was finally there again on my iPhone 4S iTunes in coverflow mode
Now while I realize that not everyone will have access to Photoshop, many imaging software applications that can be downloaded to Macs & PCs, come with free 30-day trials. All of these applications should be be able to perform the same, simple "save as .jpg" command that I used. Good luck.
I have about 3000 songs missing artwork. So using your method, while I appreciate it, would probably take me years. I think I'll just jettison the phone in favor of a non-Apple product which is actively supported by its manufacturer.
PS You will probably find that even the artwork you 'fixed' will disappear soon. Don't ask me how I know...
...Well if Apple keeps "breaking" things in each iTunes/iOS update, you're probably right.
And 3,000 songs is crazy for album art to not show up on your phone. I sure hope the iOS 6.1 update fixes this issue permanently. It's a pretty ridiculous bug for a company like Apple. (Probably just blame it on S Forstall anyway...)
Personally, this just started happening to me on my iPhone 4 this week. I am not going to crticize Apple for having a recent FCUK UP. Ive been using iTunes since 2003 lol so Im a DEDICATED user. However, I think this problem might be due to syncing your iDevice over wi-fi. I am going to put this feature off and retry syncing as I only turned it on about a month or so ago.
Also, Apple needs to readdress the way playlists are added to iDevices. I have over 300+ playlists on the side bar in my itunes lilbrary and picking the ones at the bottom and having to drag and scroll up using the side panel is a PAINFUL EXPERIENCE!!! Cmon now...i can write that code...Simply right click on the playlist and say "Add to iDevice XXXXXX" Whats so hard in doing that now????
I have also been experiencing this same problem since upgrading to iOS6 and to say that this has been in an inconvenience is an understatement of the century. To be honest, it has been an annoyance compounded by the fact the no word seems to be coming from Apple about how to resolve this issue.
I am not sure if the solution I finally found has been mentioned on this post already, as per the suggestion in the post above, my "temporary" workaround this issue on about 4000 songs was to also to disable the "Sync this iPhone over Wi-Fi" tick box under Summary -> Optionsb which seems to be working fine this far.
Since iTunes is currently processing 1611 of my album artworks, I cannot be certain whether this will work 100% and whether it will resolve this issue permanently, but maybe some of you mind find this more feasible to attempt than having to re-attach all your artwork or re-selecting and re-syncing thousands of tracks.
Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck!
