Playing movies from an SD card on an iPad

We recently bought the iPad 2. We'd like to play movies (iTunes rented or purchased) whilst traveling with no access to wifi. I was hoping I can download to an SDHD card prior to the trip (to preserve the limited ipad memory) and while traveling, plug into the iPa the SD card/Camera adapter from Apple to play.

Is this even possible and if so How can it be achieved?

You can, but you have to keep the movie names the same as the picture names on the sd card. Such as DCM_111033 or something like that. Keep the folders it creates also and just move them in the correct folder. For a test, try loading a home movie or some pictures to get the correct naming down. You will also have to move them to the iPad to watch them, but you can always delete after you are done to save storage space.

So after spending money on two 32GB SD HC Cards and the Apple Camera Reader...........I find another solution easier, faster and cheaper.....duh!.

Video stream!!

It lets you download videos and films to your laptop/mac....it converts them and lets you watch them over wifi (so no storage used on the iPad or iPhone) or lets you load them onto the iPad memory to watch when there is no wifi, and delete afterwards. You can always download again when you get wifi if so desired.

I actually had this on my iPhone and iPad but could never figure how to connect to the server (my laptop). So for those who may have the same trouble.

Down load "Video Stream" from the App store, then go to the Collect3 web site, download server a piece of software for the laptop/mac. Install, enter a password and Boom you connect. Pick the folders you want to stream and you are done.
