Ipod frozen on white screen

Last Friday my daughter started downloading the new OS update for her iPod touch. The download was interrupted, and her iPod has been frozen on a white screen ever since. We have tried the solution everyone has mentioned (rebooting by holding the two buttons down until the apple logo shows up) but nothing happens. We have run the battery completely down several times, recharged and tried again, but still no change. The iPod won't turn off, and when we plug it into the computer, the computer doesn't recognize that it has been plugged in. What can we do to fix this?

Have you tried putting it in DFU mode to try to restore?

  • Connect the ipod to your computer and launch iTunes
  • Turn the ipod off
  • Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
  • Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an ipod in recover mode has been detected (hopefully!)
