Ipod frozen on white screen

Last Friday my daughter started downloading the new OS update for her iPod touch. The download was interrupted, and her iPod has been frozen on a white screen ever since. We have tried the solution everyone has mentioned (rebooting by holding the two buttons down until the apple logo shows up) but nothing happens. We have run the battery completely down several times, recharged and tried again, but still no change. The iPod won't turn off, and when we plug it into the computer, the computer doesn't recognize that it has been plugged in. What can we do to fix this?

Restore your iPod using this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

If that doesnt wok, call aplle suport and send it to them, if you're under warrenty, they'll fix it for free.

Both of those solutions involve hooking the iPod up to iTunes. As I stated in my OP, iTunes is not recognizing that the iPod is plugged in.

Try pressing the power button and the home button until something changes (15 seconds). You may have to press power on if not done automaticy.

We tried holding the power & home buttons several times, but even after holding it for nearly five minutes, nothing happened. We let the power drain, recharged and tried again as I saw suggested in other discussions, but it still didn't work.

Unfortunately, the closest store is 4+ hours away. They are telling me I have to pay if I want to call them for help, so I was hoping someone had some other ideas to try first.

I've connected it to two different computers (it is only synced to one of them though), but neither computer recognized that it was plugged in.

Have you tried putting it in DFU mode to try to restore?

Connect the ipod to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the ipod off
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an ipod in recover mode has been detected (hopefully!)

Biikman, the iPod won't turn off. We have tried doing the reboot both while connected to the computer, and while not connected and it makes no difference. The white screen won't go away, and won't turn off (unless the power dies). When we plug it back in the white screen comes right back.

I'm having these exact same problems!!! The screen went white while I was using the facbook app and holding the power/home buttons will not work. 😟

So, I let my iPod die while it was on the white screen and when I plugged it back in to re-charge it, it came on like normal. *whew* I hope you get yours figured out soon!
