Previously using emoji with friends on txt message or twitter, however, when I upgrade to iOS5.1 last weekend, it do not work properly, I can send emoji but they show square, they send emoji, square shows up on my iphone as well. I have searched the Communities, and think encoding of emoji may be change from iOS5, but whether it changed again on iOS5.1?

Try deleting the emoji keyboard and re-adding it: Settings>General>Keyboard>International Keyboards, tap Edit at the top, tap the red minus sign next to Emoji. Then add it back by tapping Add New Keyboard.
I have tried this method several times and does not work at all.
Try deleting the emoji keyboard followed by resetting your phone: hold on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the off slider that appears first), then release. Add the emoji keyboard back again and see if it works now.
up. i am having the same issue on some of the emojis only. some of them appear some of them don't since i updated to iOS 5.1 on iphone 4S.
I tried "randers4" solution without success.
Anyone got the solution ? or shoud we wait for a fix form Apple cause it seems to be a problem on iOS 5.1.
ie : sometimes emojis appear as empty square on lock screen (notification center) and as soon as you unlock and you open the app, they appear normally. sometimes the don't. It is messy.

This was more a statement than a solution. (you noticed it started with a "up") I actually didn't mention any solutions in my post.
FYI I will try deleting the phone and reinstalling iOS 5.1 form scratch did you try already ? any improvement ?

thanks for your reply and waiting for your reinstall result. However, I have heard several similar bugs from my friend. So I will just waiting for the individual apps update or iOS debug.
