Can't Connect to Server after Upgrading to Lion

I upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6.8. I've ran all the updates etc, but now I cannot connect to my OS X Server (10.6.8) or any other machine for that matter. The server appears in my finder window and will allow me to connect as a guest but if I try to login by clicking connect as or by using COMMAND+K and typing the IP I get a long wait after entering my PW only to receive an error that says "There was a problem connecting to the server "pggfx01". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator. It should be noted that I have other machines that came with Lion that connect without issue and other machines still running 10.6.8 that connect flawlessly. PLEASE HELP, I've searched and searched with no succes.

I've tried that over and over again ( I had found that solution previously ) but it doesn't work. As a note I can connect as a guest to anything, just not a registered user. So when I get to the step that wants me to create an AFP connection it doesn't work. I type in my username & password and the little wheel spins like it's trying to connect and the error I mentioned above pops up after a really long time. Very frustrated with this upgrade, it has killed my productivity.
