Please Help Me install/Find my Apple Core Audio Components (AUDelay, etc)

I reinstalled Mac 10.x on my G4 iMac after HD problems -- then upgraded to 10.3.9 via software update (and tried again with download of 10.3.9 update via browser).

The problem is that I no longer seem to have Core Audio components (AUDelay, etc) available to my 3rd party music software -- although they were before. I look on the HD for where they should be -- in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ but they aren't there.

I have no "Previous System" folder, having done a clean install, so I can't copy from there.

I also did the "Software Restore" that was on the DVD that came with my Mac -- no help.

I've not yet added the Java updates, etc, through Software Update, as I have a dialup and it's slow. But that shouldn't make a difference, should it?

For what it's worth, there are other anomalies -- in Terminal, the command 'sudo mdutil -s" gives me the response that mdutil is undefined -- although it works on my friend's system. Also Photoshop is exhibiting a weird system display font (i.e. in the pallettes the labels are in a strange, larger font -- not the same as before).

In any case I'd like to get my Core Audio plug ins back -- please help if you can -- I've been trying to figure this out for days (and I'm a recording musician, two albums coming out, so this is of some importance to me).

Thanks

Hi trees,

if you did a standard installation instead of a Archive and Install installation, I'm afraid you erased everyhting.

You'll have to reinstall your 3rd party music softwares and plug-ins.

I'm also a musician and to avoid that kind of problem, I back up my whole system on an external FireWire HD using Carbon Copy Cloner (although I never had a problem needing a complete reinstall of OS X since 2002!), and I also back up my third party software installers and codes on another HD.

Hope you'll be able to reinstall everything!

Regards
JP

That's right, AUDelay and other Apple components are built into the Apple system, that's why you can't find them neither in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components nor in /Home/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components.

On my computer, they can't be found anywhere with Spotlight, but they are available and working in my 3rd party apps (like Amadeus II), as well as in GarageBand.

If Repairing Permissions with Disk Utilities doesn't bring your Apple components back, I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall your system. If you have DiskWarrior, you could also try it to rebuild your HD's directory.

You could also try to ask for help in the Using Mac OS X forum.
