Q: Iphone4 getting warm and drains battery realy fast

Hello,

i got this issue with my iphone since yesterday. It woked me up as usual and i noticed that it was realy warm but haven't thought much about it...was too early So i go to work as usual...then i noticed that the battery drains realy fast (like 1-2% in a minute of usage) and getting very warm on the back right beneath the rear camera (same spot is getting hot while charging). I also noticed that the auto-focus of the rear cam isn't working (also manual focus doesn't work).

I upgraded to IOS 5.1 and also reset it to factory defaults and also generate a new profile for it so no old settings are used. But the problem sill persists :/ As long as it is in standby everything is alright if i use it (even browse through tabs) it starts draining and getting warm

The 12 months warranty is over...

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1

The best you can do is try restore the phone to factory settings without any backups. It could be software related or hardware related. You want to rule one or the other out to determine the next step. You're out of warranty so you want to hope it's software and not hardware otherwise you'll be paying 149 for any repair or replacements, or if it's the battery it will be 79 dollars to replace.

Try this: First check your multitask http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211

This warming up, it is normal to warm up in use or in charging. If it's getting hot to where you can't touch it...that's not normal and definitely a cause of concern. However if it's not burning you or un-bearably hot, then nothing to worry about.

With the battery draining, You have to look at everything runnning on the phone, Bluetooth, push notificiation, emails, applications running. Those are somethings that will drain the batter even if you're not using it much.

Then if you done all of that, you'll know if it improve or still have those issue that it could be the battery.  Be sure to make sure all your information is backed up and saved with itunes or icloud. If repair is needed...be prepared for a charge of either 149 if it's with the device or 79 dollars if it's the battery.

Was wondering if you have found any solution to this problem. My phone suddenly have this same issue again.

In the past I had this issue but after the firmware update it solve this problem. However, the problem comes back randomly again!

    Current Phone Status:

    iOS 5.1.1

    Things I have tried:

    • Closed all apps
    • Switched off Wi-Fi
    • Switched off 3G.
    • Restart the phone

    Thank you in advance! =)

I know this is a dated post however I want to let everyone know what I found in dealing with a hot iPhone 4S and a quick drain of the battery. I had a hot to the touch phone on one occasion which was uncomfortably warm and the battery started draining about 1% per minute while the phone was being used. On standby it would drain at a slower rate however in a few hours it was empty. I tried all the suggestions I could find in the Internet such as reboot, turn off the calendar, delete my mail accounts and reload, shut down iCloud, etc and nothing seemed to work. Even though the phone was not running as hot as when the problem first began it was still rather warm and the drain was noticeably faster than precious.

My phone was purchased from Apple unlocked since I work overseas and use two GSM networks. When I departed the USA for the UAE I switched SIM cards and the problem disappeared completely. Just to check out what would happen if I reinstalled the AT&T SIM card the problem reappeared and the warm phone and rapid drain of the battery was present. I am not an expert in operations of the iPhone or iPad however this might be a fix someone can try in having your SIM card replaced. When I get back to the States I intend to go to AT&T to see if I can be issued an new card.

This keeps happneing to me. I manage to fix it each time but each time the fix has been different.

Fixes in the past have been:-

    1. Restore from desktop backup
    2. Upgrade to the new IOS 5
    3. Turning off Location Services
    4. Deleting my Exchange Account and then installing again

This suggests that there is not a common issue re applications, but that it is probably a hardware isse, or a bug in the IOS.

Action 4 has ifixed the latest reincarnation of the Hot Phone Draining Battery, but I will see how long this lasts before it happens again.
