verify your email's password, by using g'mail on the computer then double check what you used on the iphone is right

I had this same problem. What it was for me was that I had turned on 2-step verification.

What you need to do is signon to your gmail account in your browser. Then, on your account page under the security section it has "Authorizing applications & sites". click on "edit".

Generate a new application-specific password. Keep that password handy.

Go back to your iPad and go to the add email account in the settings.

Enter your name, your gmail email account (include @gmail.com)

Then - use the password generated on your gmail account page instead of your gmail account password.

That did the trick for me. Hope if works for you.
