If you do, make sure you have a good backup.

Mar 14, 2012 11:43 AM in response to rdhingraby Blaidd Drwg,Xsan Admin can do this quite easily. From the built-in help:
"In Xsan Admin, select Volumes in the SAN Assets list, select the volume, and then choose Rename Volume from the Action pop-up menu (gear)."
Having an up-to-date backup of your volume is always advisable, especially before a change to your volume configuration. However, this rename feature in Xsan Admin 2.x does not erase the volume. As the built-in help says: "During renaming, the volume is unmounted and restarted, and therefore unavailable to clients."
I can't remember if the rename feature appeared in 2.0 or 2.1, but it's been there a long time. There's no need to use that Xsanity article procedure. I think the procedure in that article was developed in Xsan 1.4.x or earlier when there was no easy way to rename a volume other than reinitializing it.

Servers EnterpriseNice tip. I had no idea this was added. I am still in the Xsan 1 mindset = "Never, ever, under any cirucmstance, change the name of a volume."
Thanks for the correction and the tip.

Mar 21, 2012 1:42 AM in response to Strontium90by rdhingra,Renaming a Volume in XSAN ADMIN 2
To change the name of a volume, you need to reinitialize the volume with the new name.
WARNING: Reinitializing a volume destroys all information stored on the volume. (Please Plan for the backup of SAN DATA accordingly)
To rename a volume:
In xsan admin : select Volumes in the SAN Assets list, select the Volume, and choose Reinitialize Volume from the Action (gear) pop-up menu.
So to rename a volume u need to erase the volume , it's weird

Mar 24, 2012 10:19 PM in response to rdhingraby Blaidd Drwg,Hmm, maybe I misremembered and renaming came in Xsan 2.2. Renaming volumes non-destructively is *definitely* a feature of Xsan 2.2.
