Buying the new ipad from Israel

What would be the best channel to order the device?

Should I be buying from US or from EU ?

I'm confused by the fact that the US models are assosiated with a specific carriar, while the EU models don't seem to be carrying this assosisation.

Also - Does the purchase location in any way affects the warrenty?

No Apple Store or authorized Apple dealer will ship from another country to Israel. So unless you have someone in another country who could purchase an iPad in that country and send it to you, there's no way for you to order an iPad to be shipped to you.

US iPads are not locked to a specific carrier, though the Verizon model will work via CDMA only with Verizon (it will work with any GSM carrier but would not work with a CDMA carrier in another country). Warranty is international, but support and service will be available in your country only when the new iPad is officially released there (until then, your local service center will not have replacement units).

Hi !

In continue to this question:

a. If I want to order it by myself (and pay with my own credit card) in the US online Apple store and send a friend which is visition the US to pickup the Ipad from an Ammerican Apple store, What should I do? did I have to mention his name on the online puchasing? what documents should he bring with him in order to pickup the package from the store for me?

b. I understood that there is additional 7% VAT in the US - is there is a VAT refunding in the US like in Europe?

thanks.

Its not a metter of violating any law! The new Ipad does not reached yet to my country and i want to buy it now and dont want to wait a few month untill it will reach here. there is no rule or law against bring it from abrooud, so be careful before you try to insult someone else.

If you dont know something you can just stop answering and dont jump to mistake conclutions.

I just asked about the proper documents that my friends should bring with him in order to pick my order from the store. If Apple mention that option on the website so probably there is that option - its just the question of how exactly it works.

Guys,

I understand bouhady problem completly and infact have the same one myself.

For the holidays a coworker of mine is travaling to US, he will be staying with his relatives near this Apple store http://www.apple.com/retail/theoaks/

I would like to purchase the new iPad and have my friend pick it up, sadly I don't know the correct process to "authorize" my friend to pick the device for me.

Also I don't know how I need to pay for the device, can I pay with my credit card or do I need to give him the money?

Would it be better to have Applie deliver the order to his relatives home perhpas?

Help from someone who has purchase like this pefore would be very appreciated.

Also as bouhady mentioned, our local applie representitive (sadly not applie itself) is not yet selling the new iPad http://www.idigital.co.il/ so we can't buy it here. Also, I would preffer buying from Apple officially as some people have said: "This one is for Steve".

So guys, that is the status.

Have your coworker go to the Apple store and pay cash for the iPad.

That way you avoid all the problems with trying to use a foreign

credit card - some stores will not accept them. If your coworker

has a US credit/debit card, he could use that instead of cash.

To have iPad shipped to his relative's house, you will need US

credit/debit card with US billling address. I am not sure that you

will be able to place the order from outside the US using those items,

but coworker's relative could place the order for you.

If iPads are not yet for sale in your country, you will have to take

the iPad to a country where it is sold if there are problems requiring

repair/replacement. You cannot ship it to Apple US for repair/replacement.

You will need to give him the money. The online Apple Store will not accept non-US credit cards, and obviously you can't give your credit card to your co-worker, even if you could pay at the retail Apple Store. Sorry, but I don't know how, or even if, you can authorize someone else to pick up the iPad. You'll probably have to call the Apple Store and ask.

OK, finnaly I manage to find the Apple Store Customer Service by phone and they told me that during the purchasing online there is an option to list a name of a friend which can pckup the items for you, all he need is to bring any his ID with a photo (driving lisence or passport will be fine) and the ordering number and he willl be able to pick that for you.

I'm pretty sure that an international American Exspress or Visa will be ok for pay online.

I'm going to try just on the day that my friend will be there already..

Thanks for everybodys answers.

Sorry, but you're wrong about that. The online Apple Store accepts only credit, debit and check cards from the 50 states and some US territories. You can see the official statement and list here:

http://store.apple.com/us/help/payments

You could perhaps do a wire transfer, but I've read reports from others that setting up an international wire transfer was difficult.
