Just got a new router that supports 5 GHz speeds on the wireless end. does anybody know if the MBP supports this? and if so how to turn it on?

I switched my 5GHz off on and just kept the 2.4GHz on my router, as I found it slowed some pages down

mm, I checked and it only sees the 2.4. need to check again when back at the machine.
Ah...you posted the speed of your processor...this has nothing to do with your Wireless connection. All new MacBook Pro's will connect to either the 5GHz band or the 2.4GHz band.

Hey! That's a cute one, and new to me; lists SSID, channel, speed, security mode, the works. There's always one more Easter Egg to find in these Macs!! 😀
Used to use the Network Utility found in the Utilities folder, but this is so much easier and gives more info, to boot!

I checked, and I am about 2 meter away from the router and it logs in to the 2.4GHz channel. Is there a way to force it to use the 5GHz?
I gave both channels the same name and same password, figuring that way the computer pick the best one, but seems to ignore the 5GHz channel.

Only if each channel has its own SSID, otherwise it will connect, by default, to the best signal. If separate names, you can then manually select the 5GHz channel.
