S/N indicates right color?

Hi, I recently purchased a used ipod touch 4g from ebay. A black one. But when checking the warranty status, apple indicates the unit is a white one (the picture/icon it displays when giving the warranty info for the specific s/n unit you have entered). Am I right to be alerted that what I got is a refurbished unit with a replaced screen? because the seller is telling me that it doesn't necessarily mean it's refurbished because apple swops serial numbers around when units are being replaced etc, but it all sounds BS to me. So I thought I'd ask in here for a confirmation 🙂

I also got my sister's black ipod 4g on my hands.

Apple page shows a picture of a black ipod.

Link above says... silver

For the newest -questionable- 4g ipod, like I said,

apple page shows a picture of a white ipod

Link above says black.

I dunno if another possible sign could be considered the fact that in the new ipod, the screen seems a bit more bright. Like, a tiny bit (but noticable enough when one next to another) more washed colors. I have the same brightness settings on both when comparing, of course.

Apple is aiming to drive me crazy too, though LOL

I just checked again on the apple page and now (two days later) it displays a black ipod on top of a white one.

Nope, I didn't type the s/n wrong.

Nope, it's not my memory or my eyesight that is failing me:

I have screenshots from both, all info the same but picture has just turned from a white one to a black on top of a white. Go figure.

Ingo you've been great, thank you very much for your willingness and for taking the time to help my friend.🙂

Or maybe TPTB are watching the forums and taking care of things accordingly:

The picture icon has changed for my sister's ipod too. Remember I posted that it showed up correctly as black. Now it also has a 'black on top of white' icon.

And I also checked other s/ns that I have checked days ago and were all showing up white, now all are showing up black on tp of white. Which means, they changed it for all. After my thread.😉😝
