has anyone else had problems with voicemail not working after 5.1 update? screen is blank on voicemail and randomly appears from time to time
I am brand new from Droid to iphone 4S....how do I reply to a v/m after listening to it without calling the person?
I am almost positive the only way to reply to a voicemail on the iOS system is by calling.
My wife and I both have Iphone 4S and ever since we upgraded to iOS 5.1 we've experienced the same problems of voicemails showing up but not playing. I spoke to someone at the genius bar in Austin and he didn't know anything about it. It seems from all the posts, that it's a Sprint related problem somehow. Any permanent fixes out there?

I have the same issue with a 4s on AT&T network.
Same problem on Sprint 4 S. Wonder if there is a permanent fix coming soon?
This continues to happen. I have spent several hours on the phone with Sprint and all they can do is blame Apple and reset my voice mail. Mine was so bad that when someone called in, they couldnt even leave a message. At least my wife's 4s is running on the old VM system that you have to call into...i am not going to rock the boat on that one and just be happy that it is working. This is pretty sad that months later there is still no resolve to this.
Just did the 5.1.1 update today... so far so good.
there's nothing in the 5.1.1 that addresses this issue, AFAIK
I also am noticing this issue, though I do not even get notification of any voicemails. I've tried to power off and back on but that does nothing. I've re-recorded my greeting on the phone, but have seen no messages. Can Sprint help with this or is this an Apple issue?
Thanks!
It's a Sprint problem. Contact them.
We are having the same issue with voice messages and with text messages with our 4S and Sprint. This thread was started months ago. AND THERE STILL IS NO FIX!?
I found a simple work-around. I delete the voicemail and it plays just fine in the Deleted Folder - every time.
try it.
The fact that this well-documented problem has continued on and on for so many months and for so many users is ridiculous.
I've never posted here, but really, I am sick and tired of waiting for the next OS update to fix the problem--restarting my 4S over and over every day just to access voicemail is not acceptable.
Hopefully if this nagging little issue ever turns up in the Android OS Apple will see fit to sue, because it certainly seems like a defining characteristic of the Apple "look and feel".
If you delete the voicemail and play it in the deleted folder, it will work MOST of the time. If it doesn’t, undelete it and it will work. I HAVENT HAD TO REBOOT IN A LONG TIME. Stupid fix but it works.
I will indeed try that as soon as voicemail stops playing today, and please don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the tip.
The thing is, this is a stupid fix for a stupid bug that should have been fixed months ago--accessing voice mail is not a minor matter on a phone, it's just a notch below the past antenna problems and should be receiving a bit more attention from both Apple and the media.
