And look in your user's manual where it describes how to change memory, including pictures.
The correct RAM for a 2009 MBP is 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM. The maximum RAM that your MBP can use is 8GB.

I did it some two weeks ago. Memory is really cheap nowadays and the installation is painless. Remember to ground yourself. If the memory gets a static discharge, it won't live long.
