"Lord of the Rings" extended edition - two of the movies are MONO!

I recently downloaded all three extended editions of "The Lord of the Rings" from iTunes, thanks to my Blu-ray purchase. "The Fellowship of the Rings" is stereo but "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King" are both mono. This is disappointing, to say the least!

The file info SAYS they are stereo, but they are not. I contacted Apple support, who informed me that I should contact Warner Bros, the distributor of the digital movies. This I have done, and am waiting for a reply.

Has anyone else noticed this? I can't believe people have settled for mono movies. I asked Support if there's some setting within these two files that I can switch for them to play stereo, and was told there is not. In other words, Apple has been selling movies that they claim are stereo but which are mono.

Everything else on my Mac plays stereo except for these two movies. I would love to hear if anyone else is having the same experience.

I have been frustrated by this for some time. I eagerly watch for any further developments as I also want Two Towers & Return of the King replaced.

Outstanding! thanks for your diligence. I've been irritated by this for a year, but never got past iTunes (multiple re-downloads). I couldn't penetrate the Warner Bros fortress.

I discovered this exact issue myself... but after about 2 seconds I didn't care anymore because I had the BD disc to watch.

Was it worth it?

JiminSF, you can enjoy Fellowship of the Ring now in stereo, but the other two probably won't get their stereo makeover until November.

So, is this for the 1080p version as well? I want to purchase this bundle in iTunes but if the movies are in mono, I won't bother until they fix the issue.

Thanks for keeping this up! It's really too bad they can't get this right. With The Hobbit around the corner, I hope they get it resolved before then.
