Quicktime not using DivX correctly?

I want to convert a movie so I can play it through iTunes via my apple TV, but Quicktime will not render video. With directX enabled, I get a black screen. With Direct3d video acceleration disable, or with safe mode enabled, I get white screen. Movie inspector shows codec "DX50" which is installed.

Also, the videos work fine in VLC, and Windows Media Player.
