I just synched a pdf to my iPad. iTunes said the file was copied but I can't find it on the iPad.
Any help greatly appreciated!

you have to have an app to view it in. You could try downloading the ibooks app and syncing pdf to ibooks app or pdf compatible app
It should be in iBooks.
try removing all cotent from ibooks and syncing it back. Make sure you backup your ipad and transferring your purchase to the itunes library. then remove check from next to sync books and then sync back only the pdf.
I just spent quite a while trying to sync and resync my pdf files to iBooks but they just never showed up on the bookshelf. I finally realized that they were there when I downloaded a couple from Dropbox and opened them in iBooks, only to discover that they were in fact on the bookshelf with all the other files I couldn't find. iBooks categorizes the files according to pdf and epub and separates them into different collection.It turned out that all I had to do was hit the Collections button to switch between books and pdf files. That's why it looked like my books were suddenly disappearing right before my eyes: they were being taken from the main screen and placed in the PDF Collection. Hope this helps someone.
