Itouch 4G not recognised in Windows XP or Itunes.

I am trying to get my music on my new 64GB 4G Touch. It doesn't show on my laptop or 'Devices' in iTunes. The diagnostic in iTunes shows no Touch connected. I have followed the links on the support pages and troubleshooting guides. I have gone into the Divice Manager in XP and deleted the Apple USB driver, scanned for new hardware where the iPod appears under Imaging devices. Installing the driver results in the laptop going BSOD. My laptop has a built in camera and this has the most recent driver (9.4 something as per the Acer support site or when I ask for an updated driver through My Computer I'm told it's the most recent)

This is getting extremely frustrating with numerous crashes of the laptop due to serious errors, disk checking etc. 32GB of music I can't sync to my new iTouch.

Anyway, Acer 5630 with Windows MCE Home Edition Service Pack 3. One week old 4G iTouch.

I'd be grateful for some pointers...............

iPod touch, iOS 5.1
