Can not install or update on the Mac App Store

I can not update or install new apps. Some work though, some do not. For example I can update GarageBand and UberStrikeHD(2 random apps that I have an update available for) and I can not update LevelHelper and Trillian(also just 2 random apps I have an update available for).

As for new apps ... Well, all that I tried they didn't download(ReadLater, CodeCollectorPro and RamOptimizer Lite, Apple Configurator are 4 of the apps I tried downloading). I get to enter my password, the app "goes" into the Launchpad, but the bar that should show the progress of the download gets filled instantly and the Appstore shows "Installed" instantly, while the Launchpad icon also shows the bar full instantly, but the app is obviously still greyed out since it didn't really download anything. Then after a few seconds I get an error:

"The application could not be downloaded. The requested URL was not found on this server". Cancel or Retry, retrying doesn't work either.

I am using a broadband internet connection, but I tried it with several USB devices and I got the same result (also tried sharing the broadband connection from a macmini and connect to it through internet sharing, still didnt work)... And I do not have 10.7.3 installed, since it is a 2GB update and my broadband data plan is capped at 4GB, but I doubt it will fix anything, since in the past I got this error before, but I have no idea how it got fixed. I also tried every Apple provided support article.

Console log shows 3 errors, as follows:

14.3.12 3:47:50.511 PM storeagent: *** Assertion failure in -[SoftwareInstallOperation _startInstall], /SourceCache/Pisa/Pisa-93/Source/iTunes Protocol/Built Into App/SoftwareInstallOperation.m:265

Thank goodness I'm not the only one, I was going crazy over this! I'm having the exact same problem.

I first noticed it yesterday, hadn't used the App Store in quite a while before that. I also get very similar error logs in the console (see end of post). I have one newly bought app and one update I want to download, both fail with 100% accuracy. Sometimes, though, when I try to download the new app, I get a timeout error instead of the "URL not found" one.

Just a minute ago, the entire App Store seemed unavailable to me, even though I definitely have internet connection. It's back now, though still not working.

I tried a presumed fix found on the net (delete the folder that should - but does not - contain the files mentioned in the logs), but that did not help at all. I restored the folder afterwards.

I'd appreciate any help. Best,

I spent two hours last night finding and deleting various plists and cookies of the Mac App Store App in folders all across my system (one of which was marked "corrupted"), to no avail.

I turned off Growl, no effect. I don't have a firewall or an antivirus software running, so that can't be it, either. I also tried repairing disk permissions, which didn't help either.

I contacted the Mac App Store support, complete with console logs, which responded with a standard reply. They told me to uninstall the app from my system (which I can't because I just bought it and it never downloaded) and - and this is delicious - they told me to then download the apps again, but not on my Mac, but on a different device, like my iPad. I have to assume that the customer service representative did not read my mail at all and did not even bother to check which category the request fell into.

This is dissatisfactory, to say the least. Does no one here have a solution to this problem?

Regards,

Nate

I'm now getting

"The application could not be downloaded. The installation could not be started."

There is someone else with this problem, here, but no fix available. Posted 5 days ago:

I'm curious, are you also using a broadband connection?(HSDPA)

New console logs are a bit different than the old ones, plus, I get 4 entries now, instead of 3:

The reason I ask isn't related to speed but more because I'm also using a broadband connection, also tried tethering my phone's 3G connection, I even tried connecting my Mac mini to the broadband and sharing the internet wirelessly for my iMac with no success and I also found at one point another thread posted about a year ago with someone having the same problem, he was ALSO using HSDPA. So, who knows, it might be something related to broadband/mobile/HSDPA connections, it's a pretty big coincidence if u ask me 🙂

You're the only one I saw with this same problem, except that guy I mentioned earlier with a pretty old thread. And now, BAM, I find someone else who posted same problem 4 days ago, waiting to see if he is on broadband as well, lol.

I did too have this problem before, few months ago, but got NO idea how and why it went away, but this time it's worse than ever, at least the first time I could download new apps(meaning I could delete and reinstall), now I cant even install new apps 😟

FYI, I just tried using my business iPhone 4 as hotspot instead of my own Windows Phone, but that made no difference whatsoever. I may have an opportunity to test it with a non-mobile data connection tomorrow. If any of you can do it earlier, I'd love to hear about the result here.

Also, customer service reared it's head again, saying they forwarded the problem for additional support. Let's see where that gets us...

Best,

Nate

This is quite a mysterious thing! 😕

I'm using a Vodafone Italy mobile broadband connection (HSPA+) since 5 months and never encounter this problem before. Suddenly 2 days ago I tried to update my apps as usual from the Mac App Store and 1 out of 8 could not be downloaded.

I tried many times even the next day but everytime I try to update that App ("MoneyWell 2.0.2") I got this error:

"The application could not be downloaded". The same thing happens yesterday trying to install (not update) "Zoiper Communicator"

After reading this forum I managed to get a Wi-Fi connection and tried again, and this time I can update MoneyWell and install Zoiper Communicator without any problem!

I've very little clues about what can cause this on a broadband connection, but if I face this error again I will try to do a packet trace and check if there are some blocked connection by my ISP.

What really bugs me is the fact that I was allowed to purchase an app via this connection (and subsequently be charged for it), but when I wanted to download it immediately afterwards, the error occured. I'd love to know what the difference is between those two requests to the server. Different protocols? Https? I have no clue whatsoever...
