Screensaver always covered by password box

5 seconds after my screensaver starts the password dialog appears -- covering the screensaver photos.

This happens even though there are no mouse movements or keyboard presses.

The password dialog does not disappear after any length of time.

Anybody else seeing this behavior?

If it matters, I'm using two screens (MacBook Pro and external Mac monitor) and have password set to engage immediately.
