How to fix Channel bug in Stylus RMX?

Hi,

Since today I have been having a bug with the multi-channel system in Stylus RMX. Somehow all instruments in Stylus now play exclusively through Channel 1, which means that I can no longer play several instruments on separate channels from the same instance of Stylus. They now all play at the same time.

Formerly, what I would do:

- Open an instance of Stylus on a Logic 9 Track

- In the Logic Environment, create a multi-instrument (and rename it "Stylus Multi"), with "Channel" set to All and "Port" set to Off. I would also uncross, on the multi-instrument, the channel numbers that I would want to use.

- Back in the Arrange window in Logic, I would create, say, 3 External Midi instruments, then assign each of them (in Library > Media) to Stylus Multi > Channel 1, Channel 2, etc respectively. I would obtain 3 Midi tracks called Stylus Multi 1, Stylus Multi 2, etc.

- In Stylus, I would load 3 loops, one for each channel, on "Multi" mode and "Slice" menu, then drag/drop the corresponding Midi files on each of the Logic Midi Track.

- And voila, I would have my 3 Stylus instruments playing on 3 different tracks / channels on Logic.

Now, what's happening today is that instead of playing on their respective channels, all my Stylus tracks play exclusively through Channel 1. Ex:

- With my 3 loops loaded on Stylus, I drag/drop the Midi file of Loop #1 on my "Stylus Multi 1" Midi track on Logic, leaving the 2 other Midi tracks empty.

- Pressing Play on Logic, all 3 Stylus loops play at the same time through that Midi track, when only 1 loop should be playing.

- Not sure how it was before, but now in the Mixer of Stylus, all tracks send to "Out A", and I can't change anything.

NB: One thing which may have triggered this bug was following the directions from this thread when I tried to create automation systems for Stylus: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/857555?start=0&tstart=0

Basically, in the environment, I linked a "Transform" object to my "multi-instrument", and then Iinked an "Instrument" object to that "Transform" object. The key could be in that manipulation.

I just spent 3 hours trying to figure out what happened, went on a lot of boards, the solution never showed up.

If someone has any idea, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi

Overall, it sounds to me like your Environment work has something setup in correctly.

If you start from an empty project (without all the Multi-Instrument bits n pieces), does RMX work as expected?

As a thought, generally the reason why all that 'Environment' work with RMX (and other plugs) was to work around limited host automation support within the plugin. Most, including RMX, now offer solutions such that there is no need for the 'Environment' work anymore (enable host-automation, or use MIDI Learn etc)

Hi,

thanks for your help; good to know there are other ways to automate RMX fully without using the Enrionment, and I'll look into it.

As for the multi-instrument issue on RMX, the problem persists no matter what, even when I start a new project with a blank Environment.

What I think happened is that the Channel options inside RMX, which are not directly accessible on the interface, got changed when I did that manipulation with the Transform object within the Environment. I need to find a way to change it back to what it normally was.

Cheers,

PL
