Updating images to optimise for Retina?

I started creating my photo book a while back and stopped when I heard the ipad3 was due, mainly becuase I didnt want to have to re do all the graphics after I finished it!

Its a photo book and all the photos are 1024 / 768. Ive updated to iBooks Author 1.1, opend the book and I dont see any difference, im not quite sure how it has been ' optimised for Retina'.

I thought I would be correct in recreating the images at 2048 / 1536 and replacing the ones in the book. When I do this the new image is huge on the template and I click 'Resize to fit' which makes it fit perfect.

Am I right in thinking that when the book is opened in an iPad 2 the 2048 / 1536 photos are reduced in size to fit the old resolutions, and the iPad 3 will use the full size image?

Thanks

Mark

Mark, I wondering the same questions.

Sam way as on iPad 1 & iPad 2.

Use the 'Preview', menu or Share/Save as ibook where you can find it, then load it to iTunes and sync w/your new iPad.

As for info, iBA has good built-in Help...use the menu.

Ive gone through the book, about 220 pages so far.... and ive replaced all the photos will new higher resolution photos, so replacing the 1024 / 768 photos with 2048 / 1536 photos.

It took quite a while, I thought Id just have to replace the photos in my folders but I have to click the photo in Ibooks author and select the replacement - this brings it onto the screen and its twice the size of the book, so i clicked 'resize to fit' and it brings it down to 1024 wide.

I did this on all the photos and tested in an ipad 2 and it looks the same as it did before. I guess when its opened in an ipad the larger version of the image is scaled down to 1024 to suit the ipad 2.

Im going to go into an apple store and test on an ipad3, again im guessing that it will use the larger version of the image and it will look much better on the ipad3.
