Same goes for all third party anti-virus tools, scanners, utilities, and other such nonsense.

If you suspect your system might benefit from more memory, read this, particularly the discussion at the end regarding page ins / page outs.

Safari empty cache and clear history should be safe, it is an apple product after all and comcast offers free antivirus/firewall software to customers. That might slow your computer down a little but it will make it safer imo especially if you suspect you have a virus/malware.

Solid state hard drives and extra memory are great upgrades too

Whatever you do, before anything, READ Thomas Reed's guide. He has done an exceptional job of explaining the problems of malware, of which MacKeeper is the epitome.
