Thanks for the info, but after reviewing the necessary process, I decided to simply live with the existing username.
Wise decision 😉
Propbably, at some point, you'll decide to re-install and you'll have the opportunity to do it then.
You can always create a new admin account, transfer any data to the new account, then delete the old account
Sounds worth trying. Can you lead me step-by-step through the process?
I've done all that. How do I replace the "current" user account (the one with all the permissions) with the new account?
Reinstall your OS, why would you want to use a machine with some other persons installation on it, maybe he left a keylogger on it, maybe it had other malware ....
Start again and make it your MBA.
Create the new account per that link.
Give it Admin privileges
Transfer files (see below)
Then delete the old account
Transferring files from one account to another on the same Mac
You can use your Shared folder:
How do I delete the Current account?
Also, how do I get full permissions for the New account?
I don't have the password for the Current account.
Got it all worked out.
When I deselected "allow this user to administer", etc on the current account, I was able to ,ahe the new account current after enabling permissions in "Get Info".
Thanks for all your help.
