Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info.  This is my third new iPad.  First one had yellow in the bottom left that didn't fade over a two week period.  Second one had a great screen with dead pixels.  Does light leakage cause any problems or can it get worse over time?  If not, I'm inclined to keep this one.  It has a nice screen other than this, and it is not at all noticeable unless I tip the screen a lot.

Here's the way I look at it...the iPad is basically glued together and if it's separated now, perhaps over time it will separate more....with that said, you can always bring it back in a few months once the original batch of iPads has been sold and we get ones being made now into the states...if you got Apple Care you have as long as 2 years to take care of any issues...Apple has always had great customer service....

Thank you.  It is something to think about.  Other than that issue, this is the best screen I've seen so far.  No yellow at all, and very uniform and bright.  I wonder why I've had such poor luck on getting a perfect iPad.  Many others get a perfect one first try.

My screen's colour temperature is very slightly warmer on one edge than the other so I tried the burn-in method - put it on full bright with auto brightness off and with a completely white screen. Set the Auto-Lock to "never". Plugged it into the charger and and left it on all night. There does seem to be a slight improvement. But my point here is that the iPad didn't charge! When I plugged it in at,night, it was at 35% charge and when I checked in the morning it was still at the same 35% charge! Is this normal? Could someone please do a test to see it their iPad charges or not under the same circumstances i.e. set at full brightness, auto-lock to "never", full white background. You don't have to do an all night test, just plugging it in for half an hour will show if it is charging or not.... Thanks in advance.

Normal - the display is sucking up a lot of power when it's illuminated at full power. And if you work with some apps, you'll lose power while plugged in. Just not as fast as if you weren't.

I just noticed that my new iPad 3 has this problem: the left top corner of the screen is a little bit darker than the right top corner. Actually all the left side along edge is a bit darker.

When I open the Safari, I can see the color of the search bar at both ends are not consistent. But when I rotate to the right, they seem to be the same, which can prove the the color is not consistent from life to right in the portrait mode.

Is anyone seeing the same issue? I think I make take it back to the apple store to check.

I bought the new iPad on launcj day in Greece (23rd of March). It had a uniform yellow tint, easilly visible when opening white pages. Comparing it to my iPad 2 it was very dissapointing. Returned it on the 30th of March to the Apple Premium Reseller in Athens (no Applestore unfortunately...). After it being approved by service it will be repalced in one week at least (no stock available).

    Hey there,

I'm planning to try out your suggestion. It's already been on for the past 12 hours. But I want to know if I can switch on my AC in the room as the iPad is getting very hot. Or does it have to be hot ? Thanks

As I said before, I bought 2 iPads, one Verizon and one AT&T. The AT&T one is bright white, true colors, gorgeous. The Verizon one was yellowish. The AT&T one was manufactured in March; the Verizon one in January.

I returned the Verizon one and they replaced it, and the second was the same as the first.

So I went back and returned it again and they insisted on replacing it again. It's hard to tell in the store because they have their lights so bright. So after getting it home and looking at it, I can say that the 3rd Verizon iPad is not as dark as the first two. It's still yellowish, but not nearly as bad. I had to really think about it (because I wanted Verizon over AT&T) to decide which one I wanted to keep.

I could live with the Verizon one, although the colors are off a little, but ultimately I realize that I'd never be really happy with it, knowing I could have had a bright white one. For something this expensive, you should be totally happy with it.

So I'm returning the Verizon one for good, and keeping the AT&T one. I'm going to spend more time reading it than I am using the data plan, so the colors and brightness are more important to me than having Verizon.

To be honest, I'm disappointed in Apple, that they have this quality issue and aren't addressing it on the manufacturing side. However, if I'd never seen the bright white AT&T one, the third Verizon one would probably have been okay.

My iPad was getting 41.5°C/106.7°F throughout the process. I put it into the drawer and even between the clothes. It's all about temperature, I think. Have you seen my results after 24h and 48h? It has been achieved exactly in that way, but when I'm present at home just in case

So, you can simply switch on your AC.

I've had some breaks when using it, so I've provided to you summarized time throughout a week. Just find time convenient to you to let it alone for a few hours and thats it.
