Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

"I'm disappointed in Apple, that they have this quality issue and aren't addressing it on the manufacturing side."

I can understand the sentiment, but I don't agree with it. We have no idea if, given three million sales, this is a "quality issue," at least from reports we see.

We have people with genuine problems, we have people returning six iPads in seven days, we have people claiming every iPad display on display at an Apple store is flawed, and people claiming that every iPad display on display at an Apple store is perfect.

In fact, we see less and less about this issue here.

Consumer Reports on the new iPad: “Colors are more saturated than on the iPad 2, making deeper shades more vibrant,” it explained, in a statement. “And the new iPad’s screen lacks the slight bluish hue of the iPad 2’s screen, and has a warmer and more natural ‘colour temperature’ that becomes apparent when comparing white backgrounds displayed on the new and old iPads.”

    There are two:

    1. Take it back.

    or

    2. Try to burn it in. If no satisfactory result, go to 1.

I spoke to one of the Tech Support Guys in Apple and he said Burn in makes no difference what so ever. There is no need for it. It is just the way it is But I understand a lot of people have a Bluish Tint aswell ? Right ? I feel Bluish will be much better. Can someone here post a pic of their new iPad if they have a Bluish Tint !

Yeah the Tech Support Guy says the Displays are made that way, so all the New iPad Display will have this it causes no harm to the normal working of the iPad.

It is tough choice for someone who is planning to buy one.It is like winning a Lottery who knows your device will have the yellow Tint to it or not !

The resolution is that there are good displays out there. I feel this thread got a little lost because it started comparing against the iPad 2 again. Against the 2, all the new iPads are warmer. You won't find a non yellow one doing that comparison.

But within the new iPads the display quality seems to be all over the place. I have two. 64 gig which was perfect from the start and a 32 that needed replacement. The 64 was bluer than the 32 and I find it closer to a neutral display. ( still on the yellow side, though ) My original 32 was VERY yellow. Distracting to my eyes. I swapped it and the exchanged one is great. No burn in required.

Unfortunately, you are absolutely wrong. Demo iPad 3 and my iPad 3 side by side.

Did you mean to say demo iPad 2?

No. Demo new iPad 3 16 GB WiFi (on the left) and my new iPad 3 32 GB WiFi (on the right). Picture taken in Apple Premium Reseller (iSpot) on demo table. They didn't want to exchange my iPad I'm curios if they should wear Apple logo in that case ... but Polish Apple Hotline guys don't care.

Then I'm not wrong. I said that I had a bluer iPad 3 as well, which is why I exchanged the other one. But people are comparing some new iPads with iPads 2, and in that case, the new iPad is always warmer.

And what you saw at the store was exactly what I had at home. That's what gave me complete confidence to go get one swapped. They are out there.

Yes, they are out there. I had an extreme yellow tinted new iPad. Returned it (it was in the DOA period) and got a replacement. The white was warm and correct (not blueish as the iPad 2). But it had exposed led (next to the front camera and another one at the right side of the display) and had to return it. Waiting and hoping that the 3rd one will match the quality specifications.

I can assure you that demo iPad 3 wasn't bluer - it was perfectly white. Thus, it's not true that all iPads 3 are warmer - it's propaganda. I know what I saw and no single picture will render it.

Conclusion: exchange your iPads until you're satisfied. If you're satisfied your warmness, your welcome I'm not.
