Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

    Probably two minutes ago, LOL

No really, the last few I tested were made only about 10 days ago from China. And one was so yellow I did the burn in method and that helped a bunch. So I really think some burn in time is REALLY needed.

But that's just to get rid of the yellow tint. It does nothing for dark patches and spots.

If it's bearable I'd live with it. I spend a lot of my time reading on mine so it can be distracting, I'd rather have this than a horrible colour shift though.

Interestingly my last unit has absolutely NO darker or yellow patches but did have the colour shift problem. If it's between the two I think the darker corners are slightly more preferable.

***** it has to come down to this though. I guess they're (screens) just not ready for prime time yet.

I've been through so many that the issues are starting to get all jumbled together.  I think that just about all of them have been darker on the left side in portrait.  And a few of them were darker on the top left in portrait.  I've seen yellow, pink, blue, and green tints.  I had one that had the worst backlight bleed that I've ever seen.  Interestingly, that was the one with the most uniform screen.  But the backlight was visible on a dark screen in a decently lit room when brightness was over 50 percent.

The two that I have now are decent.  They are both slightly darker on the left side, but other than that, not too bad.

I wonder if the LG and Sharp screens will be any better in terms of uniformity.  Meaning I wonder if it is worth holding out for those screens to hit the market, or whether I should just keep the ones that I have and accept that some minor flaws just come with being able to have amazing screen resolution on the iPad.

It's sad we have to use words like "Decent" and "not too bad" to describe the New iPad screen

    Such a ringing endorsement.

I've been very dissapointed with this display to the point of going back to the ipad 2 or getting another Galaxy Tab (which I really don't want but man are those 8.9" tab screens consistanly nice)

Yea. It would be perfect if the new iPad had the screen uniformity of the iPad 2, with the added color depth and resolution. That would be the perfect device. :)

i just found a new way to test your display. Go to Safari and click on History, while using your ipad in vertical position. Mine gives me a nice pink to green gradient.

Let us hear what you've got.

To be totally honest, I am happy everyone is joining me in this bad display product, makes me feel less bad about myself. I just hate the media for not bringing this up. Antena gate was hufe issue, but this? This is a "rsolutionary"  screen. Yea right

It is resolutionary.  It has amazing resolution.  Uniformity is where it's lacking.  I wonder how much of this has to do with the reduced viewing angle caused by having so many pixels crammed together.  You pretty much have to stare at it dead on.  I wonder if a 7" iPad screen would see fewer problems.

Yeh I'm very interested to see panels from Sharp or LG.

We might know when they start shipping but it's going to be impossible to pick one from stock which has the screen we want.

Hopefully Apple will have a rethink and only produce iPads with quality screens once they have more choice and techniques improve.

I just recieved another replacement and was overjoyed after my first quick look at the unit to find little to no yellow, no color shift, dust, hairs, or green/pink/blue spots or even any dim spots.  HOWEVER, once I finished syncing the device over an hour long, I find a nice 1/8 of an inch gouge aobut the same size as the microphone hole just inside of the headphone hole.  The box was pristine, the insides just fine.  So I'm just so beside myself right now at the level of quality control.  If I could just get a refund for all the iPad apps I have bought and go elsewhere I would.  But because of the commitment of buying into the iOS ecosystem, I have to keep going through replacements.

Just put the ball back in Apple's court.  Let's see where this puts us now.

Are you saying there's a gouge INSIDE the headphone jack? I'm 100% with you on returning because of a bad screen, I myself have returned ire a few but please don't return it because the inside of the headphone jack isn't perfect..... As long as it doesn't affect it its honestly not worth returning.... If you have a perfect screen, and no visible scratches or damage on the exterior and everything else works then you have an awesome iPad, I doubt it'll get any better than that

Seeing as how apple deleted my post, I got a good screen but the chassis was gouged on the outside to the right of the headphones jack.  About in the same area as the microphone hole.  But instead it has a slightly sharp area sticking out from the body.  A real shame I can't just swap the display out for another back.  No dust, hair, pixels, yellow, or uneven coloring or backlight bleed. Instead, this slipped through quality control.

I'll just keep buying and returning I suppose.  Talk about wasteful.  But this seems to be the quality as of late.

Couldn't have said it more better. Perfectly said. Infact even when now, when I am planning to buy a New iPad I have been advised by so many of my friends who have been in the manufacturing Industry. It takes anything between 3 to 6 months for any New Product to stabilise, to mature as a product, with passing time the Production line stabilises, quality improves...Be it Apple or be it any Heavenly, Godly company ! I am planning to but it in end of July or 1st week of August that will mark 6 months from the Time the New iPad was first launched and there is also a possibility of coming across a screen made by LG which in my opinion should be better than by Dreadful Sammie Boy !

Well put.  I knew this.  Yet even knowing it, I gave it a try.  I can easily wait until August.  Or I'll just keep my iPad 2, and give it a go next year.  My iPad 2 doesn't have the resolution that the new one does, but the screen is about as uniform as you can get.
