Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

Yeah, but the trick is controlling yourself for five months. You are a better man (or woman) than I if you're able to do that. I have many talents, but resisting Apple products is unfortunately not one!

I guess we all learned a lesson, Dont buy anything unless it has been at least 5 months in the market...even from Apple

... and then you'll certainly meet our refurbished zombies

When you buy an iPad, you get a new one.  You only have the possibility of a refurb on a warranty exchange or if you purposefully buy a refurbished iPad.

It won't be an issue.  I've been through so many with screen flaws that I'll probably be hesitant to try again, even in a few months.  It's been a nerve wracking and sad experience for me.  I used to get excited when opening up a package from Apple.  Now I sort of dread it.

I don't think so Apple would like to invite any such kind of lawsuit by cheating people of selling Refurb iPad's under the name of new. That's the biggest Joke I have heard.

I now have a nice iPad 2.  It's not resolutionary, but it is fast and has a nice, uniform screen.

    Me too.

Seems like ramping up that production for the masses left QC at the curb

    Dear folks,

A further confounding factor: when you view the iPad screens far off-axis, there is not only a brightness reduction that is pretty noticeable but there is also a slight color shift. The iPad2 shifted slightly further to the blue. Not enough to be a problem in use, but it's there. The new iPad shifts slightly to the yellow when tilted away from you and slightly towards the blue when tilted towards you.

So Basically the New iPad has a crappier ISP display too.  I also noticed how you have to be looking "straight on" the new iPad otherwise there is a terrible color shift. I have several new ipads and when I ook at them off axis some screens look more red, some look more blue and some look more muddy yellow.

    NICE!

Thanks for the upgrade Apple. Not!

Not a joke. Apple's exchange policy after 14 days states they can give you a refurb. This is the same as many electronic devices. Read the small print!!

I think that viewing angle is a function of pixel density.  I know that LCD TVs suffer from viewing angle issues as the pixel density increased.  I wonder if there's nothing that can be done about that.  Maybe it's just a function of so high a resolution on so small a device.

The iPhone has a higher pixel density than the new iPad, and I don't see anywhere near the color shift that I've seen in some of the new iPads.

It also has a much smaller screen.  At least on the LCD TVs, it's a combination of size and pixel density that determine viewing angle.

The light bar should also be much larger in the iPad and it also is supposed to have two, hence the much larger battery.  However, the iPhone with its much higher pixel density, better color production, uniform screen and off angle viewing make the iPad a really bummer when you actually get a production model.

I want to know why the Apple commercials can rotate the ipad and show it off angle with such color production and unchanging screen coloring as the camera pans.  I am sure they have a different panel they use for those commercials versus what we get when we order our products.  I used to rejoice at opening Apple products, referring friends to buy apple, and seeing their commercials on TV.  Now, none of that seems to take place anymore.

It does seem like if there was more lighting, then I wouldn't have had so many with a darker left side.  Even on ones that I got that were halfway decent, they were dimmer on the left side of the screen.  That is one thing that they all had in common, and was one of the main reasons that I returned most of them.  I just could not find one that had uniform lighting from the left side of the screen to the right side.
