Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

It's a shame! I am on my 8th new iPad now. The display is better than the ones before, but far away from being perfect. I just don't know what to do... I am really getting sick of it!

It is time for people like you to stop abusing Apple's return policy, return the ipad and get an android tablet.  If a person is so nitpicky that in 8 units they cannot find one suitable unit - its time to look elsewhere for a tablet.

Instead of making that acusatory remark, he has his own eyes to judge. This 'litmus test' will probably assist him in ascertaining the severity of his issue.

If Apple made consistancy a priority with this ipad launch instead of pumping out massive unconsistant quanities there would be no reason to return a product then. Right? If there was nothing wrong there would be fewer returns. I know they can make an excellent ipad 3. I have one. But I also went through many more trying not to have one like this: With a dark side.

There are no android tablets in production now or in the near future that hold a candle to what an iPad with a good screen could be. Or so I've been told by people who have ones with good screens. Thanks for the advice, but I will keep taking exchanges until I get one without screen issues, or until apple tells me to go away.

Exchanging something defective for a non defective product isn't abuse. It is what an exchange policy is for. It is not my problem that I have gotten so many with glaring screen defects. Believe me when I say that this is not fun, and I would much rather have a good one than having to exchange one after another.

I think this should serve as a attention grabber for Apple.  It's great they like to be at the forefront of technology.  But when the yields are so bad, perhaps being the first out of the gate isn't necessarily the best thing to do.  Picard is picking on those who he believes are "abusing apple's return policy".  Customers are entitled to get a product that is advertised to be a certain way.  If their commercials had lobsided coloring of the display or backlight bleed, or an overly yellow display, then you would be correct.

Instead, Apple shows iPads with a bright white display and none of these issues.  Futhermore, for people such as myself who use these things for photography, quality is important and screen uniformity vital in this line of work.  If Apple made a higher end with strict quality control on it that would gaurantee a calibrated screen, I'd pay up and go that route.  But instead they want numbers, not quality.  Lastly, Android, iOS, and others all have apps specific to that platform.  So if you spend a lot of money in one ecosystem, you are somewhat tied to that brand of hardware.  As a result, I will also continue to keep going through units until I get one that is fixed.  And I did get one that was just about perfect, except that the metal chassis had gouge marks on it from manufacturing.

You are not abusing the policy, unless they warn you and Apple is pretty good anout their 14 day reurns. It's your hard earned money

Anyway, I just got back from the Apple Store. I bought two more new ipds. A white and a black 16GB wifi. The srceens on both look evenly lit. The white ipad has a light red tint and the black one is a bit warm.

So far in my book they are both keepers. And I do also have a black 16GB wifi that was made in Feb. that has a great screen. So they do exist!

I'm not here to bash Apple. I'm a fanboy. But when I spend my hard earned couple thousand dollars buying ipads from Apple I want quality. Otherwise I would spend less and buy used on ebay.

I'll look up the dates when these two were made and post back later.

    thanks d~

I took my last iPad that I had initially thought was a keeper, back to the store today. It had two noticeable scratches and dust under the screen.

Here is my brown box replacement. They said they're happy to work with me to find one I'm happy with, but this really takes the biscuit. I'm almost ready for a refund.

Might be best to take the refund and wait a couple of months. I am returning the last one tomorrow (yellow on both sides that hasn't gone away, though it is the closest that I have had to a good one). My wif has an iPad 3 that has a darker left side, but she doesn't care. She says that she can't go back to the lower res of her iPad 2 now. So I have inherited her perfectly good eight month old iPad 2. I will use it until I try again for a new iPad in a couple of months. If I ever do get a good one, I will sell the iPad 2.

These things are just too expensive to not be 101% happy with your purchase. My wife is happy with her's. I wouldn't be, but I am not the one that has to be happy with it.

i am not sure why you guys keep buying more of these, save your money for months later. ipad 2 works just as good. **** the resolutionary display I hate it. I keep my ipad3 because I have no option for returning/exchanging it

If Apple couldnt pull it off they shouldnt have done it .

I didnt think they would face problems with it since they have been making retina screens for the iphone for about a year and a half now and it looks amazing.

I regret my purchase to be honest, if i had bought ipad 2 , i get a BETTER screen and cheaper price, lighter device, that takes less to charge. At this point , ipad 2 , looks like the superior product.

My rant is due to major upset of long wait to meet disappointing expectations and hard earned money gone without the possibility of returning the device

Thanks to Encrypted11, dennislaska and others for reacting on j-picard's remarks. As English is not my mother tongue I was not able to reply accurately.
