Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

I agree with this. Why are we playing the lottery with these things? I've gone back to my iPad 2 and my wife uses the 3 because she doesn't mind the uneven screen. It's a **** shame because the retina display is otherwise beautiful, but I hated turning it on and seeing a a whole bunch of yellow muck.

Apple is **** lucky that no one on the other platforms has been able to put together an entire product and ecosystem that matches the iPad. I would jump ship in a minute if there were an alternative to the iPad that I actually liked.

I regret my purchase to be honest, if i had bought ipad 2 , i get a BETTER screen and cheaper price, lighter device, that takes less to charge. At this point , ipad 2 , looks like the superior product.

I must share an honest feedback... the ergonomics of the iPad 2 is BETTER. If you were to play console style control games which require you to hold the iPad like an Xbox or PS controller, the weights and thickness of the New iPad forces you to clench onto the iPad corners for grip such that you'll feel an eventual numbness settling in your fingers. On the iPad 2, you wouldn't have ergonomic related issues with the device.

    My 2 cents.

Wow! The blue spot is a reflexion or is it an issue with the display? Scary! :(

It looks like a focus assist light.  But with these things, who knows?

I wish it was a reflection or focus assist. Unfortunatly it is a patch of the screen that is showing through lighter and with a blue hue.

I think I'm ready for return and wait as others have said.

I've never seen one like that.  Did you take it back?

I'm trying to sort it out with a store manager actually. If I can gt a refund, I will. Otherwise I'm going to have yet another exchange...

As you said, Usmaak, the ipad 2 would be a good option perhaps. Do you have the re-released model or one of the older ones?

Originally I bought a new iPad 2 that was week 14, 2012.  But my wife decided that she wanted one of the new iPads, so I gave her the one I had at the time, and took over her iPad 2 32 GB.  It was made sometime in September of last year.  She's never had a single second of problems with it in all the time that she's had it.  Of course it is lower resolution, but in ever other way, it has a much better screen than any of the new iPads that I tried.  Very uniform and white.

I intend to follow what's happening with the new iPad.  When I start seeing less references to issues, I will give it another try.  But for now, I'm happy on my new (well, new to me, anyway) iPad 2.

My experience has been similar to Usmaak.  I've returned about 5 New IPads to both Apple store and Best Buy.  Most had the yellow coffee stain look which was totally unacceptable.  The store workers saw it immediately and didn't argue-just apologized for my problems.  I just returned my last IPad 3 today to the Apple store.  I waited almost the entire 2 weeks as I really wanted to convince myself to keep it.  It was the best of the lot.  If I looked at it perfectly straight on the image was bright with all colors even and pure.  However, tilt it even a few degrees and it wold start to turn either a pink/red shade or blue/green.  I do quite a bit of photography so this ended up driving me crazy-especially for the price.  After returning mine today I used a coupon from Tech Bargains and Micro Center and bought the IPad 2 (16GB) for only $339.  I wanted more memory but figured for that price I'd live with less stored on it and put up with any screen problems until Apple gets their act together with IPad 3.  I'm typing this on the IPad 2 now and after checking it closely can honestly say that the screen is perfect-my test images have good gray and white tones with no discoloration.  If I turn the IPad the image will dim, but not discolor to a different tint.  Do I miss the higher resolution?  You bet I do-but the loss of it bothers me far less than the off color screens of the IPad 3.  I have no idea what is causing all the problems on the new one but do know that my former IPad 1 and now IPad 2 had perfect screens with no returns necessary.  If Apple can get the new screens working correctly I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one-but for now I've run out of patience.

My ipad has a perfect white and all the color tests that have been listed to show the difference has been substantially better than my MBP and my wifes windows laptop. I am not sure if I just got lucky, or yall are looking for problems that dont exist.

Litterally I am holding mine up to even this screen to see the whites and my ipad is brighter and crisper.  I purchased my ipad 3rd gen, two weeks ago.

Unlock, trust me...I was NOT looking for problems on March 16th when Fed Ex arrived at my door.  It was with the greatest anticipation that I opened that white box and turned on my new iPad.  My eyes bugged!  What I saw was a blotchy yellow, pink, grey and green screen. It was a mess beyond belief and I didn't even need to compare it to my pristine iPad 2 to see it.

It was only later that I came here and to MacRumors to see if I was alone with this problem and discovered I was not.  I made the sad decision to return it for a refund, continue to use my stellar ipad 2 and to wait until this summer to see if this sorts itself out.

You are indeed fortunate that you received a stellar new iPad.  However, those of us who did not are not looking for things, OCD, or any of the other derogatory labels that have been hurled at us.  Posted pictures have clearly shown the multiple problems people have complained about.

Sorry for the rant but those of us who don't have a lovely new iPad are sad and disappointed.

Apology accepted :) and I know what you mean. I have never had to return anything Apple until now so this is a brand new, not so fun, experience. You are very very lucky :)

    hello,

i am from india and have bought the new black ipad 32GB wifi only from croma, pune, on the 27th itself but it has a yellow / greenish tint on the top right ( portrait mode, facetome cam up ) and also a blue tint on the bottom near the home button and its distracting as **** when reading which i do alot on the ipad. Now i am not sure if croma or even apple india follows the apple 14 day return policy.

On my ipad one can see that its 3 toned screen so i think they should replace it for me or take it back and refund me.

    Thanks,
