Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

You do realize that Foxconn merely assembles the iPad, right? The screens themselves are manufactured by Samsung

Yes, i do. But hairs and smudges between LCD and iPad glass not belong to Samsung. It's s property of Foxconns workers . Most of iPad display screen issues (dust under glass, light bleeds, color tinting) could be due errors made by Foxconn workers when installing Samsung panels and during assembly. Sure, bad pixels are clearly Samsung fault, but most of us complaining about dust, bleed and tint issues.

We simply forgot about real quality of many US and europian brands, when their factories were located in the US and Europe and trying to adopt and justify low quality of most chinese factories. But, at least we can see hairs under iPad screens. Just wonder what is really inside many of other consumer products and food being imported from China if even Apple telling us that hairs under glass is "within specs".

I'd love to see their specs listed.  It's easy enough for them to say that something is "within spec".  I'm betting that human hair isn't listed anywhere.

And if their specs include yellow corners, uneven backlighting, and various colored hues and tints, I think that they need to improve upon their specs a bit.

Within spec is usually something that a company says to get you to leave them alone.

Hope you dont mind, but where did you find all this information about your new iPad?

I know the first two letters of the serial number mean which factory it was made in, but where do you find the factory names to link them up, and more importantly the production dates, and what do the lines "Introduced test..." , along with "Family Name (become a pro member to see this...)" mean please?

Is it from an app you've downloaded?

    Thank you

    ;-)

Well, I figured that it's been about six weeks since I returned my last new iPad because of screen issues.  So I figured that I'd give it another try.  I had the Best Buy kid take one out of the case and I searched on the serial number to see if I could get a newer one.  This one is a white 32GB WiFi only DM, week 19.  So it was manufactured between May 7th and May 13th.  So that's about as new as you can get.  With the brightness set to 60 percent and auto bright off, the entire left side of the iPad from about the middle to the left is grey and dark.  The entire right side is white and bright.  When the keyboard is up in landscape on the right side, the buttons are all nice and silvery grey.  When it is in landscape on the left side, the buttons are sort of yellowish and dark.  I returned a number of earlier ones for issues with the left side being noticably darker than the right side, but this one is the worst I've see so far.  It was noticable before I even got a white screen up on it, when I was going through the initial setup.  The grey on the left side looked yellowish.  And while the ones I returned before had a greyish strip going down the far left side, this one is grey on the entire left side.  It is almost like there are two lights behind the screen, and one isn't as bright as the other.

WiFi does not seem to be an issue with this one.  And it doesn't seem to get warm at all.

So back this one goes, and I wait some more.  Or I will stick with my wife's iPad 2, and wait until next year for the next one to come out.  I know that more people seem to be having luck finding good screens, but apparently I'm not one of those people.  I was thinking of getting an Asus tf700t when it comes out, but I really don't think that I want to deal with Android.  The amount of work I've had to put into my Evo to keep it stable has been unreal.  Android always seems to start out good, but goes downhill and gets really slow and crashy over time.  The only way I've been able to keep my Evo running well is to have it rooted.  My wife's is unrooted and is a complete disaster.

Thanks for the update.  I will keep playing the lotto until I get good ones or the next "New"  iPad is available.

Thing is, I don't hold on to them for long when I realize that there's a problem.  I think that Best Buy is getting tired of me returning them, and they'll eventually pull the plug on my being able to return them.  Might have to rely on Target.  But 32GB WiFi only models seem to be in short supply lately.  The Target near me took the price tags off their shelves for all except the iPad 2 and the new iPad 64GB 4G models.  I don't know if that means they're going to stop selling them, or whether they just can't get them now.

I'm just floored that after 19 weeks of production that these problems still exist at all.

I think apple getting tired of me sending them back from the online store.  I had one perfect screen but the chassis was dented and scratched right out of the box.  The QC in china is truly shameful and very wasteful on Apples part to allow this many defective units to go out.  I going to buy some though a different channel and keep rotating till I get one like you are looking to do.

Hi there, I had another exchange on Friday. This now is the best display I ever had, it's stunning and the difference to all the others before is amazing. BUT: One sixth of the display at the bottom in portrait mode is pretty yellowish. It's a pity! So, I would like to know, if there is a chance that the yellowish tint at the bottom might vanish after a while. Does anybody have experiences? Thanks in advance...

@Fritz2012 If the yellow cast doesnt reduce significantly in the next few day then it probably won't go ever away. My iPad has a slight yellow cast along the left edge in portrait mode. It is now two months old and the yellow cast has reduced a bit but has not totally disappeared. However maybe someone other forum members here may have had different experiences....

By the way, in what way do you mean your current iPad is significantly better than your previous ones?

@firoze The display is brighter and colours are crisp. I had compared it to the models they show at Apple's and it was very similar. The ones before had been yellowish/bronish in comparison with the showroom models.

@Fritz2012  I see. Well if the overall display is that good then it might be worth keeping this one for a while and seeing if the yellow cast disappears. It's so difficult to say whether it will or not... In my case, my iPad had a distinctly yellow cast overall when I first got it, but this disappeared after three or four day's use. But that slight cast on the left edge had not gone completely... Anyway best of luck, hope your iPad's cast disappears in time.

My yellow tint, over the entire iPad, disappeared after three or four hours of use.
