Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

This thread seems to have gone dead.  Are we finally at the point where the bad screen flaws are a thing of the past?  I sure do hope so, and I hope that everyone is thoroughly enjoying their iPads!

I probably hold the record for the number of returns.  Somewhere around 12 or 13.  I lost track.  But I finally got a week 21 without screen issues.  Very frustrating time though, and I'm always hoping that Apple's improved since the earlier days of this version.

i didn't return mine-- i decided to just live with it. i didn't want to go through the hassle if i ended up with one that was worse, etc. i've trained myself not to notice it most of the time...

Well.  I've had mine for about 12 weeks now, so I'm sort of out of the loop on what's been going on.  Mine's a week 21 DY, and I'd imagine that they're in week 32 or 33 by now.  The fact that this thread has died indicates to me that maybe they've gotten a handle on the screen quality issues that they were having during the early part of this release.

But in my experience up to week 23 (last one I returned), there was no clear winner.  Everyone was saying that DY was the factory to get from, but I had a few from DY that were just as poor as the ones from DM.  One of the biggest flaws in all of them that I got was non-uniform backlighting.  Usually the left side was too dark.  And a number of them had different tints over part of the screen.  Then I got the one I kept.  It's almost like they used an entirely different screen manufacturer on mine.  The greys are a little bit lighter, like on the original iPad and iPad 2, but it is absolutely uniform.  No weird colored tints, no darkeness along the edges.  Excellent contrast and color.  It is definitely different from all of the other ones that I saw, including the demo models in the stores.

I would be interested to hear if the problems are resolved, and if so, how they were resolved.  Was it just a question of "too many, too fast", or were actual manufacturing changes made to fix the problem.

I literally gave up. I have one which fits me ok. I am not uber satisfied but I am ok with it the way it is now after 2 returns. Bleeding is apparent in the bottom & right section and the screen uniformity is about 90% ok. No heavy yellows or green tints.

I now have one of reddish tinted screens which please my eye and whites a bit better.

The thread died because the users accomodate themselves with the given facts.

That's the thing.  I'm not sure.  If it were three months ago, I would have definitely said DY.  But now I'm not sure what's going on with them, so I am not sure if DY is still the way to go.

I was one of the early responders to this forum about the lack of quality in my new IPad.  I was about ready to just give up on a new one, but hit it lucky and got a perfect screen on my 5th or 6th one (don't remember exact return number).  I'm been very happy with it since then, with perfect color on the screen.  However, I will never again just jump on the Apple bandwagon and purchase their newest releases (upcoming IPhone) until I see some reviews, as my confidence in the quality of Apple products has gone right down the tube.

People here, who have really done some research and homework on the New iPad Units starting with "DY" "DM" "DL" etc...I ask all you guys to take a guess on this even if a wild guess, but take a guess on this and tell me what do you guys think. I am in India I am keen on buying a DY' unit only. There have been also "DM Units now started floating in the Indian Market. I am planning to buy it around 15th September i.e next month and I am hoping to get a August-2012 Batch "DY" Unit. So far I have seen a July-2012 "DY" unit in the market that makes me think that if there is a July-DY unit in market there should be a August-DY unit also in market at some point of time. isn't it ? What makes me nervous is what if I set out to buy and Apple has stopped production from "DY" units or renamed "DY" for say "ZX" how the **** am I gonna know it ?

Inshort my question is if there is a July-DY unit that I have seen in the market does that also mean looking at the trend that there will be also a August-DY unit in the market no reason for it to be not to there ? isn't it ? On a 15th August- I could see a July-DY that means by a Sept-15th I should be also to see a August-DY ? isn't it ? any guesses

Mine's a DY, and it's got the yellow screen problem.

I've noticed the borders of the screen (around 0.5cm) at each of the edges shows the correct colours, but the rest of the screen is slightly yellowish, looks quite ugly.

Can you post your week of production and Month of production. Enter your serial number here on this site http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html and it will give you this details. If you have the box the Month of Maunfacturing should also be on the iPad Box, if you still have it.
