Q: Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Almost couldn't agree more. I posted a few pages back about mine having a yellowish hue. It's now 24 hours later and it appears to have settled down nicely. Now, next to the iPad 2 it looks white not yellow, with the iPad 2 looking definitely blueish. There is almost no yellow tinge at all tonight except at extreme angles.

I reckon a lot of people's will be fine after a bit of running in.

As an aside, the text on these support pages is horrible and unreadable now on the 2 after using this new display. I always thought the 2 was a lovely display. Not so much now.

Based on the pictures, the new iPad has more realistic colors. The hand looks more like a real flesh color and iPad 2 has a definite blue tint.  If this is an issue for you, you've just grown used to the bluish tint of the screen. Personally, I find the new screen more pleasing.

I couldn't agree more about the 'hospital' aspect of the forums though I'd liken it more to the ER than the hospital in general.  I've owned dozens of Apple products (starting with Apple ][ serial number 19480) and this iPad 3 is the very first one that has required replacement.  All previous Apple products I purchased were excellent right out of the box and that includes refurbished units.

One thing the forums is good for is to determine if what you're seeing is 'normal' or will require a call/visit to Apple and for many that is comforting. To decide against a purchase based upon the forums, however, is in my estimation idiotic.

Success! (sort of)  Thought I should post to let everyone know what I did... Simple, after exchanging the unit twice, I finally got one that was better. By that I mean, the original ipad had a preponderance of yellow tint at the top of the ipad and decreased as it moved down the screen.  The one I'm finally okay with still has a warmer hue to the entire unit, but the yellow isn't heavier in any one place. 

I had two ipad 3's here at my house and compared them both side by side and there was DEFINITELY a difference.  The one that was acceptable came from Best Buy as opposed to the first two that came from the Apple store.  It's unbelievable after all the hype about the screen that they would expect people to be happy with screens that are clearly sub-par.

I would take it back to the apple store and get an new one BUT... open it up and CECKif it has yellowish on the retina display. Watch a the iPad video:http://www.apple.com/ipad/ They think that theres more picsoles but theres not.

Once I recognised the yellow tint on my new IPad, I returned it to the Apple Store. Tried two others there, but same yellow display tint :( So I stay with my IPad 2 which looks much better.

I don't think anybody here appreciates reading emails and surfing in the web without whites being displayed as whites! :mad:

Also the viewing angle stability is very poor compared to the IPad 2. :mad:Don't like changing tint and contrast when tilting slightly the new IPad.

I am sure Apple changed to "cheaper" technologies for their Screens (same issue was for the IPhone 4S).

Sorry Apple, really not fair to display in the Apple Stores just new IPads with perfect, white screens, but to sell only poor yellow ones! :(

Neither of which should be confused with pixels (or individual PIcture ELemenS).

Yes, of course, that's *exactly* what Apple is doing, selling a ton of very poor products in the hope that no one will notice.  They've been highly successful at this ploy in the past, getting away with it on the iPhone 4s so that no one today even wants to be seen with one.

All seriousness aside, there are a whole lot of very good new iPads out there -- while it's unfortunate that you seem to have been unable to get one, that will not be the case for the vast majority of people (like myself).  And there may even be some issues (like uncured glue) that will resolve themselves in a few weeks.  In any case, there are plenty of safeguards (return policies, warranty repairs, etc) to protect anyone out there so no one should feel this is any big deal.

(And my new iPad is far superior to my iPad 2 in every single way).

I've carefully checked the viewing angles on my old and new iPads and the brightness falloff is almost exactly the same for the two. See my previous posts for a more detailed discussion of viewing angle.

I took my unit to a local Apple Store to make a comparison last night.  None of the ones over there have the yellowish hue like mine.  I talked to one of the geniuses, he also noticed the difference.  He told me, every LCDs will display different colors, mine was within specs.  However,  my unit doesn't display white at all.  It displays a creamy yellowish white. 

Since I bought it at Best Buy,  Im going to exchange it over there.

If you have a defective Apple product you can always take care of any issues you have with your item at the Apple Store.

In this case especially, you are more likely to get a new unit at the Apple store than you are to get one at Best Buy as Best Buy has severely limited quantities in the beginning.

Same issue here - there is a yellow tint on everything.  I understand that the screen might have a warmer color temperature but whites should not have a yellow tint!  Either Apple needs to add color temperature controls or I'm taking mine back for replacement.  This is very disappointing.
