The New iPad: Password Incorrect for all Gmail Accounts

I picked up the new iPad this morning from the Apple Store. Since I already have an iPad 2 at home, I opted to do the set-up at home. Came home, backed up the old iPad 2 via iCloud, restored it to factory settings (I'm giving it away) and then powered up the new iPad and restored from the backup. Everything went perfectly, except for my email accounts, which all had the passwords wiped out.

I've gone into the accounts and re-entered the passwords. But none of the Gmail accounts are working. I consistently get the message that the "user name or password are incorrect." But I have double, triple and quadruple-checked that I have the correct info.

I have even tried deleting the account from the iPad altogether and then re-entering all of the information according to the instructions provided by Google/Gmail. No luck.

Per other postings on the topic, I've gone to Gmail.com and confirmed that it is set to IMAP. I've also tried the Additional Verification Setup liand that has not worked either.

Ok, figured it out. I'm using two-step verification for Gmail. What I had to do was go to

Settings->Accounts->Google Account Settings-> and

and then Authorized Access to Your Google Account.

Revoked the pw for the iPad 2 and created a new device, which generates a new 16 digit password. Entered that and it worked like a charm.

Haven't tried this with all of my Gmail accounts... just my primary accounts. But I have two-step verification turned on for all of them, so I believe that this is the cure for what ails.

Thanks for the help folks.

Same problem here, except that I don't think it has anything to do with using Gmail as our email for our Apple IDs.

I signed in to my iTunes account on my iMac last night. As usual, it required that I enter my email and password three times. But, it worked. Now, it doesn't.

The problem is apparently due to hundreds of thousands of people all trying to log in now to set up their new iPads, and Apple's iTunes servers are overloaded and can't handle the traffic. I got a message that said there was a problem and that I should try again later. The problem should only get worse as the day gets later and people get home from work.

Apple needs to upgrade its servers and fix this problem.

I had the exactly the same problem, but I solved it by logging into my google account and doing the following:

- Go to settings and click on 'Accounts and Import'

- Next to 'Change account settings', click on 'Other Google Account settings'

- In Accounts, click on Security on the left hand side and then on 'Edit' next to 2-step verification.(You might have to re-enter your password to continue)

- Click on 'Problems with your phone, email or other apps' just below 'Turn off 2-step verification'

- Scroll down to the explanation for creating an application specific password under the heading "How to generate an application-specific password" and then click on 'Authorizing applications & sites page'

- Enter a name of your iPad mail and then click on 'Generate', enter the password and that might just do the trick.

Hope this helps.
